Jenelle Evans is back in hot water. This time, for cracking a joke about the face masks now forming both protection against COVID-19 and – seemingly – a political statement. The former “Teen Mom 2” star’s words came via a weekend tweet that received very mixed reviews. While Pop Culture dubbed the 28-year-old’s words “relatable,” others, including those directly affected by the deadly virus, deemed the former MTV face’s words tone-deaf, unfunny, and, it would appear, “idiotic.”
Check out the tweet and the response below.
Jenelle’s tweet, seen above, read: “Please speak up if you’re wearing masks, it’s hard to hear some of you.” A hashtag of “just sayin” was added.
Over on social networking platform Reddit, responses now see Jenelle slammed. Over 108 users upvoted the following comment:
“Imagine talking down on someone for wearing a mask during a goddamn pandemic. Idiotic to say the least.”
Another remark read: “This wasn’t even funny why is she acting like it’s some sassy joke it’s just a mundane statement i’m???” A fan whose family had suffered a loss also waded in to give Evans the thumbs-down. Keep scrolling.
Alongside a reply of: “Literally. This is how far removed from reality she is,” Jenelle garnered further remarks suggesting that she isn’t intelligent. One user wrote that Evans isn’t “smart enough to think her actions through first.” For some, however, the tweet’s resulting waves on Twitter were sufficient in terms of response – “Twitter is giving it to her lol,” they wrote.
Jenelle has already made COVID-19 headlines, with May seeing her slammed for taking 3-year-old daughter Ensley to a beach amid a global pandemic. More below.
I lost my aunt to COVID so if you could be a little more considerate, it would make it a lot easier for the literal hundreds of thousands of people who have lost love ones to this. Thank you

One Twitter user came out to defend the JE Cosmetics founder – whose business may be on its last legs as Jenelle makes headlines for not renewing her eyebrow kit brand’s trademark. “I don’t ever agree with but I got you with this. Masks are ridiculous,” they wrote.
The “Teen Mom” cast appears to have had its fill of slamming over the pandemic. Just recently, “Teen Mom 2” star Chelsea Houska faced backlash in a bit of a social distancing fail as she posed with a crowd of female friends and was told: “? Forget we’re in an epidemic Chelsea?”
Jenelle was active on Instagram over 4th of July, sharing relaxed and bikini-clad photos as she kicked back on a lounger. The caption, likely joking, was nonetheless a little less easy-going than the images as the star wrote: “Don’t bother me ☀️✌???
Elsewhere, Jenelle has been making headlines for threatening her former co-stars with lawsuits over “libel” and click-bait articles. She also received mixed reviews for addressing Black Lives Matter riots with her boat plans while “all of you are rioting and destroying your precious cities.”
