On Sunday, Katharine McPhee, 36, and David Foster, 70, celebrated their one-year anniversary.

“A year ago today I married the love of my life. Thank you for always loving me and inspiring me in all aspects of my life. I love you. Here’s to the future! (Oh and happy anniversary to the other love of my life - this dreamy dress! 😂💕 thank you @ZacPosen!!),” McPhee wrote on Instagram with a photo of the two on their wedding day.

The couple, who met in 2006 when Foster mentored the singer on “American Idol,” wed in London in 2019.

Foster and McPhee have faced backlash for their 35-year age difference, but the two have managed to last longer than some Hollywood marriages.

And yesterday, the “Smash” actress revealed why she decided to marry Foster.

It all started when singer/songwriter, Charlie Puth, discusses his love for the song, “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston, which Foster wrote for the movie, “The Bodyguard.”

“The second chord (E minor something) in the intro of I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston will always give me chills. That warm pad under the DX7 piano when it comes in wowwwwwwwwww,” Puth tweeted.

McPhee quoted the tweet and wrote, “The real reason I married David.”

And while we’re sure there are other reasons why she fell in love with the musician, Mcphee’s comment made it clear she loves her husband’s work.

McPhee and Foster were introduced when she was a contestant on Season 5 of “American Idol.” In fact, McPhee had chosen to perform the famous song, “I Have Nothing.”

After meeting, the two struck up a friendship and were often seen at the same events together.

In 2008, McPhee married actor Nick Cokas. Not only was Foster a guest at the wedding, but he played the piano while McPhee sang at her own reception.

In 2014, she filed for divorce from her husband after being separated for over a year.

In 2017, Foster and McPhee were spotted getting cozy at dinner together in Malibu. That same year, Foster’s daughter, Erin, gushed about her soon-to-be stepmom.

“She’s amazing,” the 37-year-old told People. “I really like her. She’s awesome.”

Foster continued, “My dad is kind of a hopeless romantic, and Katharine’s awesome. We really, really like her, and we’ve known her for a really long time. And if he’s happy, we’re happy.”

However, McPhee and the composer denied rumors they were anything more than friends. But the two continued to spend time together and were even photographed kissing.

In 2018, they became engaged shortly after McPhee lost her father. She shared the news on Instagram with a touching tribute to her dad.

“It’s been a hard week. Lots of tears but I want to thank my friends and family for all the love and support. My dad was so happy for me,” she wrote.

McPhee continued, “My ring was the last thing I showed my dad before he passed and makes me smile when I look at this as a reminder of our last conversation. And now I’m ready to share with all of you what has been my sunshine amongst this painful loss. My love wisely said to me the other day that 'death is the only thing that is 100 percent inevitable and the thing we are least prepared for.' So today we’re celebrating life and not forgetting love. ❤️”
