Rumors have been swirling that Nene Leakes may have been fired from her spot as one of the original cast members of “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” While it’s unclear if she will be returning to the Bravo series, what is clear is that she is officially taking part in a different reality show. Leakes announced the premiere on Twitter this week of the new TBS show “Celebrity Show-Off.”
“Tweeties, I’m on a whole new show,” she tweeted. “TONIGHT is the premiere of [Celebrity Show-Off]. It’s [about] to get wild y’all. [You] never know what will happen or who will show up. You’re used to seeing me on RHOA but you’re [about] to see me [in] a whole new light.”
The concept of the show was created amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It features celebrities from different walks of life who create content from the safety of their own home.
The celebrities go head-to-head in each episode to see who made the most entertaining videos, as voted on by fans. Whoever wins, advances and the loser is off the show.
All of it is to raise money for charities of the contestants’ choosing.
Leakes’ tweet about her new show comes amid speculation that she may be looking to land her own reality program on E! and leave behind “Real Housewives.” The Sun first reported the news.
“Nene is pursuing her own show at E! because she’s felt like her time at Bravo has been up for a while,” a source told the outlet.
The insider added that Leakes wants to “go out on her own terms.” However, E! reportedly “has shown no interest in green-lighting the series.”
Either way, a spokesperson for Leakes says that she has not been fired by Bravo. “It is absolutely not true that Nene has been fired from RHOA,” he said to PEOPLE. “Furthermore, it was made abundantly clear prior that she will always be welcome on the series as long as she wants to be.”
He added that Leakes and Bravo “have not made any decisions regarding next season specifically. Any speculation or sources trying to create controversy by stating otherwise are incredibly inaccurate. Bloop.”
Leakes has face blowback from some fans for a racially insensitive comment about Bravo co-star Claudia Jordan. During an episode of “Real Housewives,” she referred to Jordan, who is bi-racial, as a “half breed.”
Both Bravo and E! are part of NBC Universal. None of the networks have made any official comments about her future.
