Kanye West And Gap Partner For Reported 10-Year Deal For "Yeezy Gap" Line Set To Release In 2021

Kanye West has always been involved in clothing heavily as he produces his own Yeezy line along with his extremely popular Yeezy adidas sneakers. Now, he making even more moves in 2020 as he announced on Twitter that he has partnered with Gap. His tweet read "YEEZY AND GAP FORM PARTNERSHIP #WESTDAYEVER." He also revealed that Mowalola is the YZY Gap Design Director. According to a report by the New York Times, West's deal with GAP is set to last for 10 years.

West will have input on how items are presented in-store and online.

The public will finally see the clothing in 2021. Someone close to the deal revealed that the deal was agreed on and started this month. The contract states that there's an option to renew the deal after five years. West will also give his takes on how clothing will be presented at the Gap stores and online.

West's wife, Kim, Kardashian, took to Twitter today to speak on the official announcement of Ye's partnership with Gap and she couldn't be anymore excited.

West comes in at a time where Gap has seen a decline in sales due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This was a great time for Gap to work with West as they've reportedly been seeing drops in sales. The coronavirus pandemic has sadly played a huge role in this as is the case for many other companies.

Gap is getting a much-needed image boost from West.

West's arrival is also clutch for them because as the NYT pointed out, Gap has been dealing with an "identity crisis over the years." They do own other stores though such as Old Navy and Banana Republic. West also reportedly worked at GAP when he was younger and even expressed interest in working with the brand back in 2015. He even said he wanted to be the the "Steve Jobs of the Gap.” West will also have his own design studio.

This is the The Yeezy design studio, which plans to create a “modern, elevated basics for men, women, and kids at accessible price points.” According to CNBC, Gap's stock went up by 39% following the announcement of the partnership with West. Shares were up by more than 31% and the deal added $1.4 billion to Gap’s market cap, which pushes it to more than $5 billion.

“We are excited to welcome Kanye back to the Gap family as a creative visionary, building on the aesthetic and success of his YEEZY brand and together defining a next-level retail partnership,” said Mark Breitbard, Gap's company’s global head of brand, in a news release.
