Fourth Victim In Oxford High School Shooting Passes Away

Another student has passed away in the shooting at Oxford High School that took place on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

As The Blast previously reported, a 15-year-old sophomore took a 9mm Sig Sauer semi-automatic handgun and fired approximately fifteen to twenty shots in an attack that lasted no more than five minutes. The student then let authorities take him into custody without any resistance, but would not answer any questions without a lawyer present.

New reports suggest that the handgun used in the attack was bought by the student’s father on Friday, November 26, just a day after Thanksgiving and only a mere four days before the shooting occurred. Officials have found pictures of the suspect shooting the handgun at a target on social media, but have yet to declare a motive for the attack.

Students posted videos of what it was like inside the school on various social media platforms.

One student told CNN's Anderson Cooper that he and fellow students “grabbed calculators, we grabbed scissors just in case the shooter got in and we had to attack them” after a bullet pierced one of the desks that they used to try to barricade the door.

As of Wednesday morning, three students had been declared dead: Madisyn Baldwin, 17; Tate Myre, 16, and Hana St. Juliana, 14. Tate Myre passed away from his injuries in a patrol car as he was being rushed to a nearby hospital. Authorities have said that Myre was shot when he tried to disarm the shooter.

Tate was a popular football athlete who had been scouted by college recruiters.

Sports videographer Elijah Tiernan wrote: “I covered #42 for his game this season VS Chippewa Valley, which he was a stud. Prayers out to the Oxford community during these tough times.”

Several students and one teacher were also seriously wounded by the gunfire. The teacher has been discharged from the hospital; however, three students are still in critical condition. A 14-year-old girl is on a ventilator after undergoing surgery for injuries to her neck and chest, and another 14-year-old boy is in critical condition after suffering gunshot wounds to his jaw and head.

A 17-year-old boy, Justin Shilling, passed away in the hospital on December 1, 2021, at around 10 a.m. It was unclear where he was shot.

The family of Madisyn Baldwin reached out on Facebook to try to find out her whereabouts after no one had heard from her.

Her grandmother, Jennifer Graves Mosqueda, wrote “My granddaughter Madisyn Baldwin can not be located at all!!! Madisyn is 17 and a senior in this at Oxford High School. Our family are out on foot trying to find her and bring her home safe. She is not answering her cell phone, or text messages.”

She added, “She was not in her psychology class during the shootings. WHERE SHE WAS SCHEDULED TO BE. No contact with her mother, father, stepmother, grandparents, aunts, friends, or her boyfriend!”

Madisyn was one of the students who was killed in the aftermath of the shooting. A vigil was held for the students who passed away at LakePoint Community Church.
