El Chapo's Wife Gets MINIMAL Prison Time For Role In Drug Trafficking Organization

El Chapo's wife is only going to spend 3 years behind bars, for her role in his international drug trafficking organization.

Emma Coronel Aispuro has just pleaded guilty to three federal crimes, including conspiracy, that placed her in El Chapo's Sinaloa drug cartel in Mexico. Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman's wife is a former teenage beauty queen, who has long defended she was was not connected to his criminal organization.

According to reports, Aispuro was sentenced to three years in federal prison, a number significantly less than many expected in her case. Many believed she would receive a minimum sentence of 10 years for her role in the criminal organization. In many cases, prosecutors will ask for a more lenient sentence if the person cooperated with the investigation. Of course, in a case like this, it can be highly dangerous. At this point, it's unclear what information -- if any -- was provided by Chapo's wife.

The 32-year-old beauty queen married the drug kingpin when she was just a teenager. Along with the prison sentence, she received 4 years of supervised release and will forfeit $1,499,970 which represented any property and case she might have gathered as a result of the crimes. According to reports, Aispuro copped the plea agreement earlier this year after getting busted at Dulles International Airport in Virginia for drug trafficking. At the time, she pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine, meth, marijuana, and heroin -- along with money laundering.

During the case, Emma's defense attorneys argued she was simply El Chapo's spouse and had nothing to do with the vast criminal organization. In other words, she never interacted with any of his inner-circle about the business, she was simply his wife.

Investigators say the international organization handled BILLIONS of dollars in the distribution of deadly drugs, including fentanyl. On Tuesday, the lead prosecutor noted that El Chapo's son helped manage the cartel, and facilitated his tunnel escape from a Mexican prison in July of 2015. The prosecutors said that Chapo's wife "passed messages" on his behalf at the time of the escape that described acts of "violence" although it's possible she may not have been aware of the content inside the messages.

In the end, prosecutors say her role in the Sinaloa cartel didn't deserve a possible 14-year sentence, and they recommended a sentence of four years. They noted she played a "minimal, support role" and turned herself into the U.S. authorities and pleaded guilty. A judge in the case noted, the beauty queen has been in custody since last Feburay, in harsh conditions due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

El Chapo's wife delivered a statement to the court, translated to English from Spanish, where she said she feels "true retreat for any and all harm" and said "I beg you not to allow them (her daughters) to grow up without the presence of a mother," nothing they will never see their father again.

El Chapo is serving a life sentence inside a U.S. Super-Max Federal Prison.
