Cooper, 46, revealed that the encounter happened in a New York City subway just before the pandemic started. He was going to pick up his 4-year-old daughter, Lea, that he shares custody with his on-again-off-again (ex?)girlfriend, Irina Shayk.
He was wearing headphones and said that he didn’t realize what was happening until he was face-to-face with a man who was holding a three-inch-long knife directly at him.
“I was on the subway… to pick [up] Lea downtown at Russian school and I got held up at knifepoint,” Cooper said. “It was pretty insane. I realized I had gotten way, way too comfortable in the city. My guard was way down… I was all the way at the end of the subway.”
When he “felt somebody coming up” behind him, he thought that it was probably just another fan who wanted to take a photo with him. However, when he turned around to face them, he realized that they were pointing a knife directly at him.
“I look up, I see the person’s eyes, and I’m taken by how young they are,” he recalled. “I just started booking, just started running. I jumped over the turnstile, hid around the white, tiled entrance to the subway, took my phone out.”
The man turned to run away, but Cooper tried to take pictures of his attacker so that the police would later be able to identify him.
When he did finally encounter two officers, he said that the cops kept asking him if he was stabbed. Even though he insisted that he wasn’t hurt, the cops kept insisting that he check to see if he had been stabbed.
“What happens is, people get stabbed, and they’re in shock,” Bradley recalled, explaining that most people don’t realize they have been stabbed until the adrenaline wears off. After he checked and made sure he was okay, he did what any good father would do: he got back on the subway and went to go pick up his daughter.
