'You' Fans Want 'The Lovely Bones' Author Alice Sebold To Publicly Apologize For False Accusations

Fans of Netflix's "You" are in an uproar on social media over Alice Sebold’s film “Lucky." Since news broke that actress Victoria Pedretti has parted ways with the crumbling production, social media has been blowing up demanding that Sebold receive more punishment than just having her book no longer turned into a film. Some fans are furious that she was even associated with the popular show at all.

The author who first became famous for her fiction novel “The Lovely Bones” was set to have another one of her works turned into a film. The biography “Lucky” recounted Sebold’s horrible account of being attacked and sexually assaulted during her time at Syracuse University.

The bio has been revered as “powerful”, and “revealing” it was also a New York Times Bestseller. Unfortunately, for Sebold, having her story turned into a movie has people picking at facts that eventually unraveled her story altogether. The Executive Producer of the film at the time exited when his concerns over serious plot holes were not being addressed.

The accused, Anthony Broadwater spent over 15 years in prison all the while maintaining his innocence. When he was finally released life did not get any easier because of the stigma following sex offenders.

This week after 43 years of disgrace on his name, Broadwater was officially exonerated and while Sebold hasn’t publicly addressed the controversy, social media is lighting her up for “white privilege” and wondering how in the hell she has rested so well all these years.

“All I want for Christmas is for Alice Sebold to apologize to Anthony Broadwater,” wrote a resentful Twitter user. They weren’t alone in shutting the author down, the persistent hate shows no signs of sowing down.

“The most dangerous type of woman in America...#AliceSebold I absolutely believe she knew she sent the wrong man to prison and didn't care. She needs to pay and I mean millions. #BlackLivesMatter,” fumed another user.

Other people were also demanding that Sebold fork over all the millions she made from the book “Lucky” seeing as she made it “off the back of an innocent black man”. Fans were clearly moved by the video that shows Broadwater breaking down after having his name cleared, it was shared with almost every post.

“I can’t get past the Alice Sebold thing. How many Black men’s lives have been stolen because they said hello to the wrong white woman on the street,” wrote another fan with a photo of a page out of “Lucky” where Sebold described being approached by an unidentifiable black man in a park and the steps subsequently leading to Braodwaters’ false arrest and imprisonment.

Social media is holding the author’s feet to the fire and making sure she knows they are not happy. As mentioned above actress Victoria Pedretti has already dropped out of the project. The film also promptly lost funding months leading up to the exoneration.

Let’s no forget, the EP also jumped ship and made it his mission to expose Sebold. However, there is so much more she has to lose, her reputation, much like Broadwaters’ will more than likely be shot. And, let’s face it, she may get another deal in the future but right now, things aren’t looking great for her.

Twitter has continued to blast the author and her publisher for the roles they played in keeping an innocent man behind bars.
