Derek Chauvin has been recently charged with 2nd degree murder and manslaughter of George Floyd. The fired police officer brought the attention of the world to himself when he was seen on video holding a knee to Floyd’s neck while he struggled and eventually succumbed.
George Floyd was seen pinned to the ground by Chauvin with his knee on the neck. In the video that surfaced on social media, Floyd was heard pleading with the officer, telling him that he could no longer breathe. However, these pleas fell on deaf ears. When Chauvin eventually obliged, Floyd was no longer conscious and was declared dead shortly after.

His First Charge Was Third Degree Murder & Manslaughter
On May 29, 2020, when the protests had kicked off already, Mike Freeman, an attorney for Hennepin County revealed that Chauvin had been charged and arrested. The lawyer said that the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in Minnesota was in charge of the arrest.
President Donald Trump Said Justice Will Be Served
The protests that have been going on for weeks have yielded some results that the world is proud of. Aside from the Minneapolis Police Department launching an investigation, the President also revealed that justice would be served.
He took to his Twitter page and assured everyone, saying that he has ordered the FBI and Department of Justice to look into the death of Floyd. He also said that at his request, the investigation would be accomplished thoroughly.
He Lost His Job
For several years, police officers have been responsible for the deaths of Black people in different parts of America. While some have gone free, Chauvin and three other colleagues have been used an examples. They were recently fired from the Minneapolis Police Department following their involvement in the death of Floyd.

Derek Chauvin is one of several police officers that has put the Black community in mourning over the years. When the video of him kneeling on Floyd’s neck made it to the Internet, people were hurt. It did not take long for the entire world to start responding.
