Amber Heard has broken her silence on Black Lives Matter. The 34-year-old actress and ex to “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Johnny Depp took to Instagram on Friday with her first update since May 26 – while Amber did not opt into #BlackoutTuesday with the blank, black square that dominated Instagram three days ago, her Friday post did come dedicated to the movements now sweeping the U.S. in the wake of murdered black man George Floyd. Amber has comments limited to her Instagram – as The Blast documented earlier this year, the “Aquaman” actress was trashed by her own followers after 2015 audio footage saw her confess physical violence towards Depp.
Scroll for the photo showing Amber amid corrugated iron and appearing to be in protest mode, also rocking a face mask. It comes amid the L’Oréal beauty brand Amber fronts finding itself in hot water – precisely for supporting Black Lives Matter. A “tone-deaf” message was posted to the beauty giant’s Instagram after it fired Munroe Bergdorf – a trans black woman – for speaking out on Black Lives Matter. Amber, meanwhile, was directly advocating the movement as she was photographed with a police officer – the male next to the star was white.
Amber was seen in a long-sleeved top and appearing to have been photographed candidly with a slightly shocked expression and one hand raised up to her mouth amid a gritty backdrop. Her caption read:
“Standing in solidarity with those intent on changing a terribly flawed and broken system and for those who are demanding justice in support of countless black and brown lives lost to it. I stand with all who are participating in this historic moment.
Amber, who boasts 3.8 million followers, clocked herself over 29,000 likes in an hour for her update. Scroll for her “racist” tweet storm.
Amber faced backlash back in 2018 for Twitter activity deemed to be “racist.” The star was alerting fans to ICE agents bing in her Hollywood neighborhood, with her tweet sparking slamming as she was accused of stereotyping the Hispanic community.
“Just heard there’s an ICE checkpoint in hollywood, a few blocks from where I live. Everyone better give their housekeepers, nannies and landscapers a ride home tonight…” Amber wrote, although she deleted it and replaced it with a warning of “checkpoints on your home streets…Is this the ‘great’ America we’re aiming for? Raids, fences, and police-state like checkpoints don’t feel like the ‘land of the free’ our immigrant ancestors built.”
Amber’s 2020 headlines have largely centered around the ugly battles she and 2017-divorced ex Johnny Depp continue to fight. Amber faces a $50 million defamation lawsuit from her former husband as her Washington Post op-ed spoke of being a victim of domestic violence. Meanwhile, leaked audio calls from The Daily Mail earlier this year saw the actress admit to “hitting” Depp with “pots and pans.” Amber also suggested that nobody would ever believe Depp was a victim of domestic violence, this based on her weighing 115 pounds at the time.
