Lady Gaga's 'Chromatica' Becomes Fastest-Selling Album Of The Year

Lady Gaga finally released her sixth studio album, 'Chromatica,' on May 29. It was originally supposed to be released on April 10 but it got delayed due to the start of the coronavirus pandemic. At the time, her "Stupid Love" single was building a lot of momentum. When the delay was announced, she teased different cover arts for the album.

Prior to the album's release, she released her "Rain On Me" single featuring Ariana Grande. This debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

It's now been a week since Chromatica's release and the numbers have amazing. According to BBC, it is now the fastest-selling album of 2020, which beats out her 2013 'Artpop' album. It's also expected to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Gaga also noted that she dealt with chronic illness and depression and that played a key role in creating this project.

"The beginning of the album really symbolises, for me, what I would call the beginning of my journey to healing," said to Zane Lowe. "And what I would hope would be an inspiration for people that are in need of healing through happiness, through dance."

Fans were begging Gaga for a new album for years as Chromatica is her first album since 2016's 'Joanne.' Every solo album that she's released since her debut album 'The Fame' in 2008 has gone platinum. That project went 6x platinum and Joanne was platinum. The only non-platinum project that she's released is the collab album 'Cheek To Cheek' with Tony Bennett in the fall of 2014. In 2018, she released the soundtrack album 'A Star Is Born' with Bradley Cooper which debuted at No. 1 and has been certified 2x platinum by the RIAA.

Stupid Love and Rain On Me continue to be the two most popular songs off of Chromatica. Stupid Love initially debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Rain On Me is currently the new No. 1 on this week's Hot 100. Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage" remix feat. Beyoncé occupies the No. 2 spot and DaBaby's "Rockstar" feat. Roddy Ricch is at No. 3. Expect Chromatica and Rain On Me to reach Grammy nominations this fall and also take home wins at the ceremony in 2021 as well.

Back in April, Gaga was also playing a huge role with the World Health Organization for coronavirus relief efforts. She raised $35 million in a week for WHO's global coronavirus response fund. She also worked with the WHO and Global Citizen to set up a virtual festival on April 18 titled "One World Together at Home." This event featured Lizzo, Elton John, Billie Eilish, Stevie Wonder, and more. Gaga was sympathetic towards the front line workers, such as doctors and nurses and also the people who lost their jobs due to businesses temporarily closing due to the virus.
