Selma Blair is extremely relatable as she shared her experience of explaining the death of George Floyd and resulting protests to her 8-year-old son. Blair took to Instagram this week to share that she had participated in the nationwide moment of silence for Floyd that was recognized at 9 PM on Wednesday and held for a duration of 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

Supporters of the 'Black Lives Matter' movement and protest of police brutality were asked to go outside of their homes and shine a light in the sky as a tribute to Floyd.

"My son and I , We stood outside for 8 minutes 46 seconds to just think of what George Floyd means for each of us from where we are. What he represents also. After a conversation again today about race and fear and sometimes insurmountable financial challenges of Black lives," Blair captioned a photo of a lit lantern in her garden.

The "Cruel Intentions" star added:

"we finally looked at each other after this memorial of 8 46 , and he said 'you wouldn’t live if that happened to me.' And he is mostly right. But I would stand up for people like him for the rest of my life."

Blair, who is dealing with ongoing health issues related to her multiple sclerosis, shared how she related to the movement because of being a mother, and that she is now motivated to do all she can do help the cause.

"That is what I want for the now and the future of our lives . Black lives. This is what mothers of black lives live with. The sons and fathers and friends. Black lives. And this grief and concern have pushed me into truly acknowledging and doing everything I can to be an active ally in the fight against systemic racism."

The actress also revealed how excited she was to see the other three officers involved in the death of George Floyd arrested and charged.

"When I looked on the internet, I saw what we had been hoping for at least... some justice... the 4 cops have been charged."

Earlier this week the Minnesota Attorney General announced charges for the other 3 officers involved, along with elevated murder charges for Derek Chauvin, the officer who had his knee on George Floyd's neck for over 8 minutes.
