With statements and endearing gestures emerging from virtually any and all famous figures in pop culture in relation to racial equality protests, it’s no surprise that supergroup BTS, who are already known for their humanitarian efforts outside of the Black Lives Matter movement, are now throwing themselves into the fray with this social justice issue. The group is condemning police brutality and expressing solidarity with protestors through a new statement and charitable contributions made by individual members and the group as a whole.
The seven member group decided to issue an official statement regarding police brutality and racial injustice, condemning both as inherent concepts and offering their support for the Black Lives Matter movement that has grown to even more prevalence as the instances of the last week or so have transpired.
“We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together. #BlackLivesMatter,” the Korean boy band tweeted to fans on Thursday.
Beyond the well-received public statement, which has since garnered over one and a half million likes on Twitter, a spokesperson for a Korean media outlet claims that the group members are working to set up independent donations to a variety of causes affiliated with the movement.
“We are in the process of making a donation, although we are still in the process of sending money, and we are still unable to reveal the donor and the amount of money,” the statement read.
The group has been well-known for speaking out about a variety of injustices across the globe, so their most recent admission of support for Black Lives Matter has left fans grateful once again for the overt social justice efforts propagated by the Asian group.
“BTS spoke out against racism & discrimination, made multiple songs about social injustice, are in partnership with UNICEF for their anti-violence campaign, and have donated/are currently donating to MULTIPLE charities to support blm. stanning BTS really is a privilege,” one fan tweeted, garnering thousands of impressions.
우리는 인종차별에 반대합니다.
우리는 폭력에 반대합니다.
나, 당신, 우리 모두는 존중받을 권리가 있습니다. 함께 하겠습니다.
We stand against racial discrimination.
We condemn violence.

Back in September of 2018, the group made headlines for another notable humanitarian effort, where member RM gave a moving speech to the United Nations to help spearhead the UNICEF initiative Generation Unlimited. The United Nations commemorated this moving instance in a recent tweet.
“I want to hear your voice… No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin color, gender identity: speak yourself,” RM mentioned in the highly-publicized statement the famed pop star made to the coalition of world leaders.
