The Music Industry Is Set To Initiate Black Out Tuesday In Response To The Death Of George Floyd

The Music industry is putting plans in place to halt anything music for a day, so as to find a way to inculcate change among artistes and labels. This is happening in response to the nationwide grief over the tragic death of George Floyd, a black citizen.

Many record labels have also decided to enact the Black Out Tuesday campaign, to show solidarity for blacks in America and other parts of the world who are facing discrimination and racism with every breath that they draw.

Presently, blacks all over the world are mourning not only the death of Floyd, but that of Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. Many music-centered organizations and companies, including Live Nation, Recording Academy and TikTok have also pledged to lend their voices to the black community, to fight against racism and killings.

Aside from record and music companies , many black and non-black artistes have taken to social media to show support for the ongoing protest against discrimination of blacks all over the world.

Columbia Records has announced that they will observe the 'Black Out Tuesday' on June 2, 2020. Furthermore, Sony label, which represents artistes like Beyoncé, John Legend, Bob Dylan, Adele and many others, released a statement recently; explaining the reason for the BOT.

"This is not a day off. Instead, this is a day to reflect and figure out ways to move forward in solidarity. We continue to stand with the Black community, our staff, artistes and peers in the music industry. Perhaps with the music off, we can truly listen"

Several others who have decided to join the campaign include; Capitol Records, Def Jam, Epic Records, the Universal Music Group divisions, Island Records, Warner Music Group, Warner Records, UMG Nashville, Capitol Records, and so on.

Also, Several upcoming record labels have also decided to join the movement and halt anything relating to music for a day. Interscope Geffen A&M, the record label representing Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga announced that they will not facilitate the release of any song for the entire week. This is incredible as they are the first to make such a commitment.

They also revealed that their major aim for the rest of the week, is to join forces with other organizations, to bail out protesters that are detained by the police. They will also align with lawyers to help implement the change that everyone is fighting for. Finally, the record label's commitment will be to charity organization, to help create awareness for the empowerment of black communities.

Many thanks to artistes like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Post Malone, Demi Lovato, Lil Nas, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and many more who have used their platforms to preach justice for Floyd and others who have been murdered by the police.
