Jimmy Fallon came under fire from some corners of social media this week for something that happened 20 years ago, and now Jamie Foxx is coming to his defense.

The late night host played Chris Rock in a sketch on "Saturday Night Live" in 2000, and painted his face black for the bit in which he is a guest on a Regis Philbin talk show. The sketch being resurfaced cause "Jimmy Fallon Is Over Party" to begin trending on Twitter.

The backlash became so fierce that earlier. this week, Fallon took to twitter to apologize for it.

"In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface. There is no excuse for this," he wrote. "I am very sorry for making this unquestionably offensive decision and thank all of you for holding me accountable."

Foxx, however, doesn't think Fallon has anything to apologize for.

"Bro you ain't got to apologize for shit. You are a comedian... and a great one at that. You did an incredible impersonation of Chris Rock... It was not black face," Foxx said.

"You are all the way good. Keep doing you my friend! You are necessary!!" he added, "Some of y'all didn't even see the sketch... relax and laugh! It's Other muuuuphuckas out here that really don't care bout ya... use that energy for them!!! But leave my mans alone."

In an Instagram post from E! News, Foxx continued his defense of Fallon.

"He was doing an impression of Chris Rock. It wasn't black face. We comedian I know it's a tough time right now. But this one is a stretch. On a show called in living color we played every race. Let this one go. We got bigger fish to fry ... #changecourse," Foxx commented.

Foxx isn't the only one who has Fallon's back. Comedian and actor Marlon Wayans also commented on the situation.

"This #jimmyfallonisoverparty is dumb as hell. @jimmyfallon is truly one of the nicest guys I’ve known in our industry. Y’all stop digging up old shit. Go find a new tree to piss on. This one is clean," he wrote.

In another tweet, Waynes responded to a fan who joked that the Waynes brothers should be cancelled for portraying white women.

"Please cancel me. This culture is as shitty as you are. Now go f--k off i got more offensively hilarious shit to write"
