Speaking to HollywoodLife in a new interview, Kandi Burruss shared candid details of NeNe Leakes controversial premature departure from part 2 of the ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta,’ reunion special for this season, explaining what went down after Leakes walked off cameras.
At the end of part two of the famed Bravo program’s reunion special, Leakes made a well-documented exit that Burruss explained in detail beyond what fans were able to see on television, and it was just as dramatic as expected.
“You saw Marlo [Hampton] did try to reach out to her, Porsha [Williams] did, but she did not come back to the computer but she was calling us on speakerphone,” Burruss began to explain to the publication of what occurred during the reunion.
“Now what they didn’t show you [on TV] was we could actually hear what she was saying [at the time of filming], but they did not play her voice [from] the phone [on TV],” she continued to explain.
When questioned why the show’s producers opted to not include her comments, Burruss said, “I [don’t] know why they didn’t want to play what she was saying.”
This most recent departure from the reunion program is not the first time that Leakes has left a ‘RHOA’ taping prematurely while the other castmates remained. During part 1 she insinuated that she had to use the restroom and then simply never returned to film the rest of the special with the other stars.
Leakes’ castmates and ‘Watch What Happens Live’ host Andy Cohen were not thrilled by her actions, and were even less thrilled when Leakes then tried to call on speakerphone during a different private call with Porsha Williams.
“Why are you calling us on speaker phone, but you don’t want to talk to us [on video]? It didn’t make sense,” Burruss pondered to the publication during the interview, adding “So that was what you didn’t see was that we were actually able to hear her talking on the speakerphone for a short period of time until Andy was like, ‘No, uh uh, we’re just going to go forward [without her].'”
Despite Leakes’ departure being a prominent fixture of the reunion special, Burruss revealed that it actually wasn’t as long-lived as it appeared through television, “It was a good hour, maybe a little longer,” she said, claiming the cast had already spent the entire day with one another. “Overall, I think that the funny thing was all of us were exhausted. We were pretty much exhausted after the reunion.”
In reference to her interactions with Leakes following the departure, Burruss said, “We didn’t talk that much, I briefly spoke to Marlo, I think, and I briefly spoke to Kenya for a short period of time, but really, everybody was just so exhausted. Sitting in front of a computer all day is exhausting. Since the reunion, NeNe and I haven’t talked at all.”
