Britney Spears just straight-up admitted that she once felt like the “ugly duckling.” The 38-year-old pop princess whose smokeshow body defined an era updated her Instagram on Monday with a stunning, windswept photo from the backyard of her L.A. mansion.
Britney – currently fronting media outlets for marking 20 years since break-out hit song “…Baby One More Time” – got very honest, very candid, and a touch vulnerable in her caption. The blonde revealed not feeling “pretty enough” in the past. Her 24.3 million followers, up 100,000 since the weekend, had nothing but good words.

It showed the “Toxic” singer looking deep into the camera as her blonde hair blew around her face – almost forming bangs – with the stunner flaunting her killer cleavage in a skimpy, puff-sleeved top in patterned white. A plunging neckline, simple neck jewelry, and smokey eye makeup completed the look, but this post was as much about the image as the caption. Speaking of “exposing” her forehead after not having had bangs since the third grade, the singer wrote that “only pretty people in the South could do that.”
Britney wrote:
“And I never felt pretty enough to pull it off. All the beauty pageant girls did it but I never felt beauty pageants were my thing … I had bad teeth and felt like an ugly duckling.”
She continued: “I met with a modeling agency but I wasn’t pretty enough so I went home and said, “maybe I can be like the older girls and show my forehead” !!!! I did and it looked sooooo bad but I thought I was gorgeous ? !!!! I think I knew it didn’t look good but I did it because I thought it made me cool …. and I’ve pretty much had it like that ever since !!!!
Britney’s fans – who recently drove her 2016 “Glory” album to #1 chart spot – were like bees to a honeypot for this update, also leaving the mom of two over 133,000 likes in an hour.
Over 600 likes were left to the following comment.
“Britney you don’t need to worry about looking young, you’re perfect.”
“You know you are Britney Spears right?” another said.
Britney’s caption, a lengthy one, had concluded with an admission that when she pulls her bangs “in front of my head, I feel like I’m protected.”
Britney – whose #FreeBritney army rages on as her 2008-commenced conservatorship is extended amid COVID-19 – has been lighting up Instagram throughout the pandemic. The star offered to pay for food and diapers back in March, with April and May seeing her admit to burning down her gym and losing weight as she pined for Iranian personal trainer boyfriend Sam Asghari. Now reunited, the two delivered a workout video seven days ago, with views now at over 2.9 million.
More recently, the star thanked her fans for their support over the 20 years that have spanned since schoolgirl sex appeal and bombshell charm propelled her to fame as a teen in “…Baby One More Time.”
