Ben and Akinyi appeared on the third season of “90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days.” On the show, they got married in a traditional ceremony in Kenya. Did the relationship last? Did Akinyi make it to the United States? The latest episode of “90 Day Fiance: Self-Quarantined” sheds light on the situation.
Notably, Ben and Akinyi are quarantining separately, but that does not mean they aren’t together in spirit. Ben has been posting pictures of Akinyi on Instagram, showing they still have a relationship.
On the episode of “Self-Quarantined,” Ben and Akinyi reveal that they do have plans to become legally wed in the United States. In fact, they had to postpone their wedding because of the coronavirus pandemic.
They chose a date for a church wedding long ago, but it came and went because Akinyi and Ben have been quarantining in different locations. With so many weddings and major events postponed, Ben and Akinyi are just two people dealing with this very difficult situation.
Now, Akinyi and Ben have seemingly pushed their wedding to the fall. They are set to wed on August 29 in the United States. On the episode, Akinyi reveals that she feels somewhat relieved. She does not want to rush her move to America.
In a confessional, Akinyi reveals she thinks Ben is rushing their marriage. He wants to get married as soon as Aknyi shows up, whereas she wants to wait out her 90-day fiance visa to see what kind of life she can expect after her move to a new country.
At this moment, Akinyi is still in Kenya. Ben, who has a son, is in the United States awaiting her arrival. They are clearly still in love, but COVID-19 has impacted their ability to be together.
Ben frequently posts pictures of Akinyi to his Instagram page with expressions of love, indicating they are in a good place. Akinyi has also posted pictures of her with Ben. Unlike some other couples from the franchise, Akinyi and Ben are not trying to hide their relationship status.
Akinyi and Ben keep in touch in spite of the social distancing orders. They chat via video and text frequently. It is unclear exactly when Akinyi plans to come to the States, but when she arrives the two will have 90 days to wed. While they have had a religious service in Kenya, they need to make it legal in the U.S. as well.
TLC airs “90 Day Fiance: Self Quarantined” on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET. The network is also airing “90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days” on Sunday nights.
