“Teen Mom OG” now has a COVID-19 positive member. The MTV franchise’s star Gary Shirley – ex to troubled Amber Portwood – revealed that his mother is “very sick” with coronavirus. Carol Zizak is an essential worker for whom Mother’s Day has proven particularly hard this year – the overall situation saw Gary take to Instagram with a photo and heartfelt confession of how dark times are.
Carol was diagnosed with COVID-19 one week ago. With her working at an assisted living facility, son Gary wrote that his mother was at high risk.
Posting a photo of his mother and opening that she is “very sick” with the virus, Gary mentioned wife Kristina:
“My wife and I have been trying to help by dropping off food (curbside) so she could focus on getting rest. We haven’t hugged her in about 3 months & we haven’t had her over inside our home for about 3 months. This has been extremely hard for all of us.”
“Our youngest daughter has an immunodeficiency disorder where she gets sick so easily so we have stayed home and took this quarantine very seriously,” he continued.
Gary shares 11-year-old daughter Leah with Amber Portwood, whose 2019 headlines included her arrest for allegedly wielding a machete at then-boyfriend Andrew Glennon in the presence of their infant son.
“We have had to go to store a few times (kid free of course) however, I knew my mother would be exposed at some point due to her job which was very worrisome itself. Now, with a confirmed case of covid-19 we are worried more and limited on what we can do to help,” Gary added.

Gary has a modest Instagram following of 141,000 followers, but fans turned out in full force for this update.
“Sorry to hear, Gary. Will be thinking of her and your family. Take care man,” one user wrote.
“Prayers for your Mom Gary I now it’s hard not being able to go help her! ??,” another said.
A porch “brunch” of eggs, sausages, and bacon was then shared as Gary showed his delivery – also including pie and toast – to his mother.
“The food turned out great, even in the rain,” he said.
The “Teen Mom” cast has largely been making headlines for taking COVID-19 seriously. This includes Mackenzie McKee’s solo park trip, plus “Teen Mom 2” star Chelsea Houska filming her Lauribelles try-on hauls from home.
Former “Teen Mom OG” face Farrah Abraham has, however, been raising eyebrows. The 28-year-old made headlines in April for wishing coronavirus on her own fans. When a user pointed out that their Michigan governor had warned people to not “frolick” around, Farrah replied:
“You’re disgusting evil, get off my page and I’m sure coronavirus will find you at your house evil hater keep hating legit that’s your virus.”
