"Motownphilly's back again, doin' a little east coast fling" as Boyz II Men make a special virtual appearance on the Mother's Day edition of "Saturday Night Live."

While their single, "A Song For Mama," (which originally dropped on the soundtrack of the 1997 film "Soul Food") gets revived every Mother's Day, it was the first time that the three men performed it on the air in over a decade.

Though the rendition was remote, the song still had the same impact that it did when the track was first released in the mid-90s.

Fans Connected With the Socially Distanced Performance

To make the performance even more iconic, Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman were joined by producer Babyface, bringing tears to the eyes of all the moms affected by our current season of social distancing.

"This song always makes me cry because I lost my sweet momma this time last year but I love it. It's so beautiful! And I love Boyz to Men," wrote one fan on Instagram. "If you ain't get goosebumps or teary-eyed this ain't for you, " wrote another.

The Harmony Was Very Different From the Studio Single

The scene was set with the four legends performing in black and white while a slideshow of SNL stars with their mother pulled each transition together.

Though nothing will compare to the original song, the split vocals provided detail that studio tracks sometimes flatten which one fan pointed out, "Omg. I love this version better than the original the new harmony levels are AWESOME!!!!! Thank you for this!"

The group has also taken to social media, sharing the performance as well as Mother's Day wishes to fans using the #MAMACHALLENGE.

Babyface, who recently recovered from his COVID-19 illness, also received recognition from fans. "Amazing performance Wow... I’ve always admired [Babyface] and his ability to create some of the most amazing songs EVER IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC!"

While Babyface did make another virtual appearance battling Teddy Riley on Instagram Live with the Timbaland popularized Verzuz, Shawn Stockman has also been largely present with performances on both the Boyz II Men's official Instagram account as well as his own during the pandemic.

Boyz II Men have also included themselves in the All-In Challenge, providing fans with the opportunity to bid for a chance to sing with them on stage during a show of their Las Vegas Residency hosted at The Mirage.

Currently, fans who live in or were planning to Las Vegas are waiting for the group to return to that residency. Boyz II Men are among the hundreds of Las Vegas performers that are currently out of work due to cancellations caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
