Pete Davidson is full of jokes, but saying he was not trying to do drugs was not one of them.

The 26-year-old actor is now promoting "The King of Staten Island," a new film loosely based on his own life. In promotion of the movie, he and co-star Judd Apatow made an at-home video on April 27th ahead of their May 8th appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" - and something strange happened in between.

On the film itself, Davidson revealed the story is "all fake, but it's also pretty much true."

"It's pretty much like my life if I didn't find comedy. My dad passes away in it and my mom is a nurse."

"It's pretty much like my life if I didn't find comedy. My dad passes away in it and my mom is a nurse. We really just wanted to make a movie about it — it just shows how it hurts this family. And we wanted to show how wonderful all these firemen and nurses are, and I think we did that."

Davidson, once engaged to pop singer Ariana Grande has been publicly honest about past issues with alcohol and drug abuse. He checked himself into rehab in 2016 after being a self-proclaimed "pothead forever."

“I started having these mental breakdowns where I would, like, freak out and then not remember what happened after. Blind rage," he said at the time.

Davidson was diagnosed with bipolar depression while in treatment and was placed on medication. Almost immediately after rehab, he "started smoking week again" (while still being medicated). Since then he's admitted to not always being sober - but now, he says, is one of those times.

"And you know, I quit drugs for a bit," Davidson said in the recent social promo. "I'm just trying to be positive."

It was last night when Davidson told Fallon that - hours after this video - he received an unexpected guest (bearing an undesired gift).

The tale came as a result of Fallon asking his fellow comedian's location.

"I am quarantining in my mom's basement, so, crushing it," Davidson replied. "Me and Judd released this video to kind of try and get it out there that the movie is coming out and I mentioned that I wasn't doing drugs and I was trying not to."

"And then literally three hours later, a lady rang my doorbell with a full bag of weed and gave it to my mom and said, 'I heard your son needs this.'"

"So if you see this, please do not do that, because I will sell it," Davidson joked, noting that "they came from Bayonne [New Jersey]."

"They were like, 'We just saw your video, congrats on the movie!'"

Though Davidson was in good spirits, Fallon encouraged viewers to "not give him drugs."

"He's trying, folks!"
