Chances are, you didn’t know who Emily Ratajkowski was eight years ago. Don’t worry! A lot of people didn’t.

Ratajkowski, born in London, moved to San Diego, California with her parents when she was a child.

“I come from a family of artists: my mother is a professor of English literature and is a very good writer, while my father is a painter. So, perhaps yes, it was in my blood, but I remember I wanted to be a fireman, too! I was and am a person who likes to change my mind,” she told Vogue Italia.

When she was 14-years-old, Ratajkowski signed with Ford Models. She went on to model for Nordstroms and Khlo’s.

A year later, she started auditioning for more television roles. But according to Ratajkowski, she was always given the “mean girl” part.

"I was so tired of auditioning for the bitchy girl in high school,” she told the New York Times.

In 2009, the model enrolled at the University of California to study art.

She dropped out a year later to pursue her career full-time. Shortly after, Ratajkowski posed for treats! magazine, which is where Robin Thicke noticed her.

Before appearing in his 2013 “Blurred Lines" music video, Ratajkowski had already appeared in Maroon 5's "Love Somebody" and Taio Cruz's "Fast Car" music videos.

But it was her role in “Blurred Lines,” that catapulted her career.

In 2013, she was named "Woman of the Year” by Esquire.

She went on to star in David Fincher’s, “Gone Girl.” From there, she starred in the “Entourage” movie as well as “We Are Your Friends,” alongside Zac Efron.

And while she’s grown her acting career in the last few years, her modeling career hasn’t suffered.

The 28-year-old has appeared on the covers of Cosmopolitan, GQ, Vogue, and even Glamour. She’s also walked for several fashion shows, including; Bottega Veneta, Versace, and Dolce & Gabbana.

In the media, Ratajkowski often faces controversy from those who think she sexualizes herself in order to stay relevant.

For instance, her performance in “Blurred Lines” received a lot of backlash for being sexist.

“On the surface level, the naked women dancing, I understand that can be perceived that way. But we're directed to have a sort of confidence, a sarcastic attitude about the whole situation. That eye contact and that attitude really puts us in a power situation,” she told Esquire about the music video.

She continued, “It's something very important for young women today to have that confidence. I think it's actually celebrating women and their bodies."

In fact, Ratajkowski identifies as a feminist. She was even arrested in 2018 while protesting Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual misconduct.

In 2018, the model married actor and producer Sebastian Bear-McClard, after dating for a few weeks.
