James Kennedy was left off the guest list when his “Vanderpump Rules” co-stars, Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz, tied the knot for a second time during a recent episode of season eight and during an interview with Daryn Carp days later, he opened up about being missing from the event.
“This was during the time of my whole transition into sobriety. I wasn’t drinking. Vegas probably wasn’t the best surrounding for me anyway,” Kennedy said during his appearance on “People TV’s Reality Checked.”
Because it was a storyline that was set to play out on the show, Maloney and Schwartz kept their plans for a second wedding in Las Vegas to themselves and didn’t invite many people, including Kennedy.
“It was a really well-kept secret around when that was happening. So, I sat that one out,” Kennedy explained. “I know when I see Schwartz now and he’s drunk, he’ll hug me and be like, ‘I really wish you were at my wedding now, James.'”
After feuding with Maloney on “Vanderpump Rules” for years, mainly due to the things he said about her weight during his drinking years, Kennedy got to a much better place with her and her husband during filming on season eight last summer as he chose to quit drinking.
“It’s good that we are at the place we are at now and we can build better memories in the future,” an appreciative Kennedy shared.
As fans have seen, Kennedy chose to stop drinking last year after his girlfriend Raquel dealt him with an ultimatum.
“I love Ariana. I don’t see that because I just see such a different side of her in real life,” Kennedy explained of his co-star, who has been open with her depression struggles on the show.
Kennedy also spoke of Madix’s relationship with Sandoval.
“It’s just different, you know what I mean? I love her and Tom together. I think that their relationship is a beautiful relationship and it’s different,” he said. “And I feel like it works for them and not everybody needs to understand that. Hardly anyone really needs to understand it because it’s just them. It’s not like anyone else is in their relationship.”
“I think if it works for them, it works for them and I never see them complaining. I never see them arguing, really, or complaining about life,” Kennedy said of the dynamic between Madix and Sandoval.
“They’re always just so happy to be together and that’s a beautiful thing,” he continued of his co-stars, who have been dating for the past six years.
To see more of Kennedy and his co-stars, don’t miss new episodes of “Vanderpump Rules” on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
