Malikah Shabazz's Death Is Under Investigation

Malcolm X was one of the prominent figures during the civil rights movement. His battles for Black empowerment and the promotion of Islam made him a revolutionary hero.

However, the icon was assassinated when his wife, Betty Shabazz, was pregnant with the couple's youngest children — twin sisters Malikah and Malaak.

Now, Malikah has gone to rest with her late father just one week after the exoneration of Muhammad Aziz and the late Khalil Islam — the two men convicted as Malcolm X's killers.

However, unlike the death of the renowned civil rights activist, authorities believed no external forces were responsible for his daughter's death.

According to sources, the 56-year-old was found unresponsive by her daughter in their Brooklyn home around 4:40 pm. Although authorities didn't suspect "foul play," no conclusions can be made until an autopsy examination.

The heartbreaking news of the activist's daughter's death was also confirmed in a tweet by Bernice King, the daughter of the late Martin Luther King Jr.

The 58-year-old expressed her grief over Malikah's passing and sent her condolences to the remaining offsprings of the late spokesman for the Nation of Islam.

Despite her prestigious background, Malcolm X's daughter had been on the wrong side of the law on various occasions. In 2011, she was found guilty of amassing over $55,000 bills in someone else's name.

In 2017, the late mother and her daughter Bettih were arrested for animal cruelty charges in a Walmart parking lot.

The Descendants Of The Late Civil Rights Activist

As shared by The Sun, Malcolm X's murder was a devastating loss for the black community as well as a terrible blow to the children he left behind.

The icon had a total of six beautiful daughters with his wife — Qubilah, Attallah, Gamilah Lumumba, Ilyasah, Malaak, and Malikah.

Some of these women have grown to become strong advocates against injustice, like their late father. At the same time, some of them bore the scars of their father's assassination.

Qubilah was four-year-old when the activist was murdered during a speech on February 21, 1965, at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem.

Along with three of her sisters and their pregnant mother, the little girl watched in horror as Three assailants gunned down Malcolm X.

In 1995, more trials faced Qubilah as she was charged alongside her mother for plotting to kill Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam and Malcolm X's rival.

However, not all the activist's descendants experienced traumatic events; Attalah grew up to be a famous producer, writer, diplomat, and Ambassador-at-Large to Belize.

Gamilah founded a clothing line with her sisters under their father's image, "Malcolm X Legacy," while Ilyasah is a professor that promotes education for the youth.

One can only imagine the awful impact Malikah's passing will have on her sisters, but the children of Malcolm X have shown they can survive almost anything.
