The departure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has been put entirely at the feet of Markle, however, according to a 2017 interview with the redheaded prince, leaving the royal family might have been in his plans all along.

A June 2017 Newsweek article revealed that the younger son of Princess Dianna and Prince Charles, the Duke of Cornwall, actually had plans outside his royal heritage. Harry told Newsweek’s Angela Levin that he aches to be "something other than Prince Harry."

It’s widely believed that heading back to the United States with her prince in tow might have always been the plan for Meghan Markle, according to a source cited by The Sun UK.

"This is the ideal result for her - she comes back to Hollywood with a prince to show off and getting to pick and choose who she wants to work and socialize with rather than the other way around,” the unnamed source told The Sun.

"I think she always wanted to be back here, she always dreamed of the full-blown Hollywood lifestyle and this kind of clout. And I don't think it was even that hard to persuade Harry.

Harry Was Enamored With Hollywood

According to the same source, Prince Harry was so enthralled with not just Meghan, but Hollywood in general, the pair were both equally as delighted to expand their social circles to include each other’s.

"Harry would do anything she wanted even when she was just a USA actress. She then was able to extend her circle thanks to their relationship and bring names like Oprah and Serena Williams to their wedding,” The Sun’s source said.

"He was smitten and star struck over the whole thing. I don’t think she had to twist his arm to move to Hollywood."

"My search began when I was in my mid-20s," Harry said about his transformation following his mother’s death. "I needed to fix the mistakes I was making," the young prince said on a podcast about bottling up his grief over his mother's death

The prince said that his extreme loss led to "total chaos," and that he was "very close" to a breakdown on several occasions. The younger son of the late princess said that it was his brother who encouraged him to get professional help, according to Newsweek.

"My mother died when I was very young. I didn't want to be in the position I was in, but I eventually pulled my head out of the sand, started listening to people and decided to use my role for good. I am now fired up and energized and love charity stuff, meeting people and making them laugh," he says.

"I sometimes still feel I am living in a goldfish bowl, but I now manage it better,” Harry said. “I still have a naughty streak too, which I enjoy and is how I relate to those individuals who have got themselves into trouble."

At the time of his interview with Newsweek the prince said that he’s attempting to maintain his “ordinary life.”

"My mother took a huge part in showing me an ordinary life, including taking me and my brother to see homeless people. Thank goodness I'm not completely cut off from reality. People would be amazed by the ordinary life William and I live. I do my own shopping. Sometimes, when I come away from the meat counter in my local supermarket, I worry someone will snap me with their phone. But I am determined to have a relatively normal life, and if I am lucky enough to have children, they can have one too." He pauses, then adds, "Even if I was king, I would do my own shopping."
