Serena Williams isn’t spending COVID-19 emptying the Pringles cans. The 39-year-old tennis superstar and former World no.1 – one of the first celebrities to announce going into “solitude” – updated her Instagram on Monday with an insight into how she’s staying in shape. The 23-time Grand Slam winner made headlines less than a week ago for playing herself in a backyard tennis session, with the video now sitting at 977,000 views on Serena’s Instagram.
Toning the cardio way down – but upping the flexibility – was Serena’s latest video. Keep scrolling for it.
Seen below, Serena’s video showed her solo and in a dance-come-gym studio backed by a ballet barre and full-length mirrors. The sister to Venus Williams was 100% focused on her sped-up yoga workout, seen flaunting her muscle machine of a body from a purple mat and working through it all with notable ease – hands touched the floor in stretches, hands reached toes, and a near split showed off Serena’s abilities as she rocked teal green spandex leggings, plus a muscle-flaunting white tank.
Clocking over 183,000 views in just three hours, the video also brought in a giant wave of comments from Serena’s 12.3 million followers.
“Sounds really dumb but it’s surprising to see just how flexible serena really is x,” one user wrote, with another writing: “I feel more flexible watching this.”
Captioned: “morning yoga,” the video also saw users mention their own COVID-19 quarantine – clearly, people have been piling on the pounds: “Everyone else gaining weight and you look smaller lol,” one fan wrote.
Serena has been keeping Instagram updated on her quarantine, also candidly sharing her anxieties – particularly those involving 2-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.
“Now I’ve been social distancing for actually a really long time, for probably two weeks now, and every little thing makes me crazy. And by anxiety I mean I’m just on edge. Any time anyone sneezes around me or coughs I get crazy. I don’t hang out with anyone, and when I say anyone I mean my daughter,” Williams said in late March.
“She coughed, I got angry and gave her a side-eye. I gave her that ‘angry Serena’ and then I got sad. I was like, ‘Is she ok? Is there something wrong with my daughter? Is there anything I can do?’ I just don’t know what to do, so instead of being relaxed I’m really under a ton of stress,” Serena continued.
Far more upbeat has been a video of Serena dressed up in a Snow White Disney dress – currently sitting at 1.1 million views, the video showed Serena relying on a microwave to bake pies, also cheekily showing Instagram the back of her dress – “speaking of backs,” Serena said as she showed the outfit that didn’t “fit.”
