Lisa Vanderpump was on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills until she was confronted by Kyle Richards about Vanderpump possibly leaking stories to the press. Vanderpump, grieving her brother at the time, was offended and stopped filming with the cast. By the season reunion, she had quit.
Erika Jayne talked on The Jenny McCarthy Show on SiriusXM to talk about how much more fun season 10 was, because it did not have Vanderpump in it.
“Yes it does. It feels different, lighter, faster, more fun.” Jayne said, when asked by McCarthy if it felt less toxic.
McCarthy led with a statement, “No one is trying to control the narrative,” so it probably feels nicer to be on the show, to which Jayne replied: “You can put those words in my mouth all day long, you’re absolutely right.”
While we don’t believe in putting words in anyone’s mouths, we’re glad Jayne and the cast have found closure from a toxic environment.
Jayne also stated that she was certain that the cast agreed with her.
“I did feel weird because we started together, 10 years ago,” said Kyle Richards, on the topic of Lisa Vanderpump.
The two of them had been working together since the very first relationship. However he said, that this feeling did not last, because they got caught up in the new normal–a post-Vanderpump show. “The show just takes off and all these women have so much stuff going on and things start happening that you really don’t think about it, honestly.”
Teddi Mellencamp also stated that her time on the show was better as soon as Vanderpump was off. “I was able to get to know everybody in such a different way than I did my past two seasons,” the fact that she had been on-air with the cast for two years and felt she didn’t know them is sad, and definitely points to a toxic environment.
Lisa Vanderpump spoke about why she really quit to Access Daily, where she said: “It was a very sad year for me with losing my brother and everything. I was very honest about that and [I was] struggling with depression.” While she was likely struggling at the time that Richards spoke to her, the rest of the cast felt like this had been going on for years, not just after losing her brother.
However, Vanderpump claimed the women were attacking her during season 9, “It was very difficult, the whole situation…”
She continued: “They all started coming at me and it was all based around the whole dog fiasco. It got too b*tchy and I just suddenly thought, ‘That’s it, I’m done,’” Vanderpump said. It looks like the women who believed Vanderpump was toxic were taking it into their own hands.
It also doesn’t help that Vanderpump had a lot more than just Real Housewives going on: “I had so much going on. I was opening TomTom, Vanderpump Rules is a big show, we have the dog rescue center, we were opening in Vegas. There was just so much and when it all kind of piled on top of me, and I was emotionally depleted anyway, I just said, ‘You know what? I’m done.'”
