Selena Gomez Stuns In A 'Rare' Instagram Selfie As She Chooses To Be Happy

Selena Gomez has moved far, far away from her now-happy, now-unhappy days with Justin Bieber, and is doing well for herself. With her health issues also having been sorted, Gomez is living the chill life in quarantine, making sure to stay positive all through. And one way she does it is by taking selfies with positive notes taped to a mirror, to remind herself and her fans of all the wonderful things in life, and how we all need to stay positive during these times.

Selena Goes Makeup-Free For A Selfie

Her latest Instagram selfie, under her handle Rare Beauty went up on May 1. She is makeup-free but glowing, and her caption read, "Choose happiness. Every month is Mental Health Awareness Month – we’ll be sharing more resources, community stories, and ways we stay positive all month long. Enjoy your weekend, log off, and do something that makes you feel good.” May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so it makes sense for this post to go live on the first day of the month.

She Has Been Open About Her Struggle With Mental Health

Selena Gomez has been open about her mental health struggles and had a frank talk with Miley Cyrus on her show, 'BRIGHT MINDED: Live With Miley', in April. Selena said, "Recently, I went to one of the best hospitals in the world — or definitely in America — McLean [Hospital, in Massachusetts], and I discussed that after going through years of a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar." She said that the diagnosis came with a sense of relief.

Today, Selena Believes "I Am Enough"

She continued, "And so when I know more information it actually helps me; it doesn’t scare me once I know it. And I think people get scared of that… I’m from Texas, where it’s not known to talk about your mental health. You’ve got to seem cool.” And that's often the biggest hiccup to getting help for mental health issues, people don't bat an eye if you have a physical problem that you need medical help for. The stigma associated with mental health, however, is immense.

Selena Was Awarded By The Same Hospital That Later Diagnosed Her

Selena's association with McLean Hospital began in September 2019 when she was given an award by them, celebrating her efforts to raise awareness about mental health. At the time, she had posted, "Thank you, Dr. Rauch, for inviting me and spending time speaking with me about mental health. And thank you to all the amazing staff at McLean. And a huge thank you to (film director) David O. Russell for connecting me with these amazing humans. These are the moments where I am so grateful for the platform God has given me.” Clearly, she got a lot back too...
