Last week, Kanye West made headlines after Forbes announced that he became hip-hop’s new billionaire. They reported that he is valued at $1.3 billion but he disputed that by saying that he’s actually at $3.3 billion. West also claimed last year, Forbes didn’t want to label him as a billionaire when he revealed a $890 million receipt.
West is now making more moves back in his hometown of Chicago. According to WGN 9, he purchased his childhood home in the South Shore neighborhood for $250,000.
West will also be putting in an additional $60,000 in renovations. His late mother, Donda, originally purchased the home back in the 1980s and went on to sell it in 2004. This was also the same year that West broke out as a star as his debut studio album, ‘The College Dropout, was released. This included the hit singles “Jesus Walks” and “All Falls Down” featuring Syleena Johnson. From that point, it was the beginning of a legendary career for West.
“It went through a lot of trouble after that,” said real estate reporter Dennis Rodkin. regarding the home “It’s on South Shore Drive in the South Shore neighborhood. It went through foreclosure and several years ago a foundation that Kanye was involved with, but Rhymefest — one of Kanye’s collaborators — bought it.”
Rodkin added that there were initially plans to build an “arts incubator.” That ended up not falling through.
“Then they announced ‘we’re going to have to tear the house down, because it would cost less to build a new one than to rehab this because it’s been empty for years.”
As of now, West has not revealed what exactly he plans to do with the home once these renovations are completed. In the end though, it’s good that he wanted to see his childhood home still be in his life and not let it get torn down. West had a very close relationship with his mother. She passed away back in 2007 due to “coronary artery disease and multiple post-operative factors due to or as a consequence of liposuction and mammoplasty.”
Aside from his billionaire rant, West also reported went to Wyoming with his children to give his wife, Kim Kardashian a break. Kardashian mention how their daughter, North, has had a lot of energy during the stay-at-home order in California. Kardashian has been creating makeup tutorial videos in the bathroom of their guestroom but North always wants to be in the videos. In Wyoming, West owns two properties, with the second one being purchased back in November for $14.495 million. This is the Bighorn Mountain Ranch.
This month, West also revealed in a new interview with GQ that he will still be voting for Donald Trump in the 2020 Presidential Election. In 2018, he voiced his support for Trump by wearing a MAGA (Make America Great Again) hat and said that slavery was a choice.
