Jonas and Chopra were married within a year after they first started dating. Their romance wasn’t actually as fast as you might think, though. In fact, there was quite a long ramp-up before the two of them decided that they were going to start dating on an official basis.
In an interview with Kelly Clarkson, Jonas said that he knew Chopra was the one just a short time after they started dating.
“It’s kind of a long story,” Jonas told Clarkson. “I’ll tell it. So basically, we were told by a mutual friend that we should meet. He said I’ll connect you guys. He never did. I got impatient so I direct messaged her on Twitter. She responded. We talked back and forth about a year on text.” They didn’t meet for quite some time, though.
“Then we finally met in person,” Jonas continued. “It wasn’t really a date. We just met in person and went for a drink.”
Even after the two of them met for the first time, Jonas said it took another year before the two of them went on what he would call an official date. It was after that date that the two of them became really serious, and that’s where the rapid romance that so many people know actually got its start.
“Then about a year later we went on our first official date to The Hollywood Bowl to see Beauty and the Beast Live,” Jonas said. “Just recently we played there to end the first leg of the tour and she sat two boxes away from where we sat on our first date. It was very cool.”
The couple officially began dating in 2018, and they were married on December 1 of that year. Jonas admitted that he faced a lot of skepticism for how fast they moved.
Jonas just shrugs off that criticism though, encouraging those who might be skeptical to mind their own business. Jonas and Chopra decided to get married just four months after they started dating. Jonas didn’t say exactly when he proposed, but he apparently told his brothers that he was going to just a week after the two went on their first date.
“When you know you know,” Jonas said. “We heard that pretty much from everybody once we told people we were engaged.”
