Kate Winslet is a veteran British actress renowned for her exquisite talents, high motivation, and self-confidence.
The 46-year-old has impacted the film industry via her work in independent films, such as the “Titanic” and other period dramas, where she usually plays the alpha female roles.
As a top female actor, Winslet has starred in movies alongside dashing male co-stars. She has shared the stage with big wigs like Leonardo DiCaprio, Idris Elba, Liam Hemsworth, and many others. However, none of the pool of male A-listers elicited a reaction from Winslet like Hemsworth.
While on the set of the Australian comedy-drama “The Dressmaker,” the pair shot many intimate scenes that made the hunk take off his shirt. In those moments, Winslet noted that her feminine hormones were at work.
Hemsworth Played Winslet’s Love Interest
Recently, Winslet appeared on the red sofa of the “Graham Norton Show” and discussed many topics, including filming with Hemsworth. She highlighted that she could barely keep calm as her co-star had to keep taking off his shirt for long hours.
“We struggled to keep a straight face during that scene,” the actress recalled. “Poor Liam, for 12 hours straight we kept making him take his clothes off. We didn’t mean to!”
However, relaying the scene to her daughter did not elicit the humor response Winslet expected. “My teenage daughter was furious that I got to be in the same space as him and at that moment. She just made a series of sounds,” the actress added.
For the shirtless scene, Hemsworth received a heads up that he would have to appear unclad. Not wanting to disappoint his fans, he did some extra fitness regimen to ensure he looked good.
“I didn’t eat for weeks,” Hemsworth said as per HuffPost. “Anytime you’re going to come out and take your top off, it’s good to do a couple of pushups. It’s difficult to come out and take your clothes off.”
Winslet Did Not Know Hemsworth Age While On Set
When two actors with age differences portray romance roles, there is usually some friction on set, as the disparity in their ages could lead to some level of discomfort around each other.
Although Winslet and Hemsworth are years apart, it did not affect their on-screen relationship as “The Reader” star was ignorant of the gap.
“It didn’t even occur to me,” Winslet said. “And the funny thing is now that the film is coming out, people are noticing that. I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, I completely, honestly, until today, I didn’t know how old Liam was.”
The actress revealed that she only saw Hemsworth in light of his role in the movie. She added that she does not use social media, hence her lack of information about her co-star’s age.
Hemsworth Felt Uncomfortable Playing The Love Scenes
Hemsworth has filmed numerous intimate scenes with different on-screen partners during his career. A particular trait that comes with all these moments is his quirky feeling when the cameras stop rolling.
Strangely, the handsome hunk has often opined that he feels uncomfortable after playing such parts. Similarly, he felt this way while filming “The Dressmaker.”
“During the scene, it’s fine. You don’t feel uncomfortable while the cameras are rolling,” Hemsworth said per E-News. “As soon as it’s cut, then you’re standing around, and you’re in your underwear, and you’re chatting with the crew,” Hemsworth added. “That’s when it’s weird and uncomfortable.”
Winslet also shares a similar view with her co-star. In her case, she despises acting in love scenes. Whenever she is required to play such roles, she dives into it and quickly gets it done before it becomes awkward.
Winslet And Hemsworth’s Upcoming Features
Fans can get to see Winslet’s feature in an upcoming biopic as the model and photographer Lee Miller. More so, she plays a huge role in “Avatar 2,” a sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi action thriller.
While on set, the actress was required to perform many daunting acts. These included learning how to free dive and also holding her breath for long periods underwater. She also worked with motion capture technology to play the part of the fictional character named Ronal.
For Hemsworth, the actor came back from a three-year hiatus to star in the romantic comedy “Isn’t It Romantic” and the action crime film “Killerman.”
Currently, Hemsworth favors television roles, starring in the horror series “Most Dangerous Game.” In the show, he portrays the role of a deathly ill man trying to secure his family’s financial future before his demise.
