On Friday, November 12, Spears was finally freed of a 13-year conservatorship after a court hearing. Britney said that it was the “best day ever” and thanked her fans in a video celebrating the ruling outside of the LA County courthouse.
Although Spears’ struggle to reclaim her independence has inspired her fans, she has also been an inspiration to other members of the entertainment industry as well. Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, couldn’t help but give credit to Spears for inspiring her while she was growing up.

In a brief interview with Variety on Thursday night, a reporter asked if Gaga would be open to collaborating with Spears in the near future.
“I would,” Gaga exclaimed, her words partially cut off by the microphone.
When asked what her favorite song was, Gaga replied, “I love all of Britney’s work. I can’t choose just one. I mean, ‘Oops!…I Did It Again,’ of course, is one of my favorites.”
Gaga went on to say that Britney is “a woman in this business that showed a lot of power in her sexuality, even in her youth, in a way that I think, as a young woman, was just so inspiring and empowering.”
She added, “We can all root for her, but the person who changed her life was her. So this change that’s happening for her, it happened because of her, I believe, and I’m really… I’m excited for her future and I wish her all the best.”
Britney Spears Might Be Honored With TIME’s 2021 ‘Person of the Year’ Title
The “Stronger” singer has been an inspiration to many fans and other celebrities throughout the years, and 2021 is no exception. That’s why her fans are pushing for TIME magazine to give Spears the title of 2021’s Person of the Year.
Although Spears faces some steep competition from Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, advisor Anthony Fauci, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, and Spacex CEO Elon Musk, fans are hoping that Spears will take home the title.
One fan tweeted that Spears should win because “she’s basically one of the few on that list that is actually having impact on society with her fight for independence and who is also fighting for the people.”
Another fan said that she is “the most authentic celebrity, changed laws, stood up for herself and others against a corrupt system and simply because she is an inspiration to every single person out there for her strength and humbleness!”
While some fans wrote of her contributions to the music industry, others pointed out that “she deserves to recognized for her opening doors for reform and change within conservatorships and spreading awareness!”
The winner will ultimately be chosen by TIME’s editors. The decision will be announced on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
