Gigi Hadid was still a teenager back when “Sports Illustrated” photographed her in a swimsuit photoshoot that’s been posted to the iconic magazine’s Instagram. Gigi, 24, featured as the Flashback Friday choice for the weekly hashtag – given that the photos dated back to 2014 when the supermodel was just 19 years old, it’s of little surprise that the snaps quickly made headlines.
Gigi has been in the news for her swimsuit snaps winding up on perhaps-unexpected social media pages. Earlier this year, the sister to Bella Hadid stripped down to a tiny thong bikini for a promo post shared by Kourtney Kardashian’s Poosh lifestyle brand.
The double-whammy update included two snaps – swipe right below for the second. Kicking off was a low-frills and indoor shot of Gigi as she posed amid ordinary furnishings, herself popping against the backdrop as she flaunted her killer body. The blonde was rocking a vintage-style bathing suit in upbeat and multicolor stripes – a plunging neckline here also showcased the Reebok face’s fierce cleavage.
A quick swipe to the right showed a completely different setting with Gigi reclining on the beach and backed by a decked boat – the swimsuit here showed off Gigi’s killer legs and waistline as she glanced sideways with her hair blowing in the wind.
Feedback to the post was mostly positive as fans gushed over the throwback, although a comment gaining a significant amount of likes suggested that Gigi has, in some way, been ruined by the modeling industry.
“Flashback to a healthier beautiful Gigi before the industry made her think she wasn’t pretty enough or thin enough ☹️,” the user wrote.
“This is when she looked great – now she is so thin,” another said.
Plenty of positivity manifested, though, with one fan writing: “??? such a cutie?.”
Instagram activity amid COVID-19 has varied between the supermodel sister duo. Gigi’s 23-year-old sister Bella has made headlines galore for mentioning the global pandemic, with the Dior Beauty face fronting media outlets as she bared her burrito in a topless snap to encourage social distancing. The March 20 post currently sits at over 1.1 million likes, with Bella also having delivered TikTok dances, plus quarantine bikini sunbathing sessions.
Gigi, meanwhile, has been a little more off-the-grid. She did, however, make headlines for snacking on Chinese food in a throwback photoshoot to 2018 over Easter.
Gigi recently opened up on her career beginnings as she thanked French designer Jean Paul Gaultier for launching her first runway appearance.
“At the time, I was still starting out in my career, I was coming out of high school, I still had my volleyball body,” she told Elle this year.
“At the time, people were hard on me and tried to say that I didn’t have a runway body,” adding:
“So for Jean Paul to have me at his last ready-to-wear show in 2015—not only to have me, but also to put me in an outfit that didn’t cover a lot… like, there were still stylists or designers at that time who were putting me in their shows, but putting me in something that really covered my body,
