Vice President Kamala Harris is making history once again.
The first-ever Black, South Asian female VP will be stepping into the role of President of the United States while Joe Biden gets a surgical procedure done.
The President is getting a routine colonoscopy according to White House press secretary, Jen Psaki.
Talk about a crappy day on the job!
Kamala Harris Becomes First Female President… for a day!
“The vice-president will work from her office in the West Wing during this time,” Psaki said in a statement.
She continued to explain the temporary transfer of power is routine.
“As was the case when President George W Bush had the same procedure in 2002 and 2007,” her statement said.
Biden will have to undergo anesthesia for the procedure forcing him to turn over the reins to Harris.
Biden out of office for colonoscopy
According to CNN, Biden arrived at the Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday, November 19, to undergo his first routine annual physical since taking office.
It’s very routine for the VP to step into the role of president when they undergo medical procedures that involve anesthesia.
Per CNN, Biden is the oldest first-term president in US history.
The last update on his medical history was in December 2019; however, Biden’s primary care physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, described him as “a healthy and vigorous, 77-year-old male” at the time of his last visit.
Biden will celebrate his 79th birthday tomorrow, Saturday, November 20.
