It looks like celebrity cook Ayesha Curry is about to be $10 million poorer. The wife of Golden State Warriors player Stephen Curry is being sued for taking her brand and essentially running off. According to “TMZ Sport”, Flutie Entertainment run by Robert Flutie has filed a lawsuit against Curry for after she didn’t live up to her end of the bargain. According to Flutie, his company was hired to increase Curry’s visibility and branding. They are accusing her of taking her celebrity and running.
Flutie claims that Curry signed a contract with his branding company way back in 2014 when she was not a household name. In the suit, Flutie states that Curry “expressed dreams of building herself into a global brand”. The company believes that once Curry finally got that fame she was looking for, she ditched them. She cut ties with the company in May 2019 and according to them she “allegedly tried to cut them out of all profits and ownership equity of things she created during her time as a Flutie client.”
The company maintains that they have done what was asked of them in the branding department. If you recall Curry had her own show on the Food Network “Ayesha’s Home Kitchen” which ran for two seasons and she also hosted one season of “The Great American Baking Show”. However, her real money comes from her cookbooks and a line of cookware she started. The mom of three has grown in popularity exponentially she is also considered an influencer with 7.3 million followers on Instagram.
Curry has always been focused on making herself a brand through the things that she loves. During an interview with “OprahMag.com, Curry shared what she hoped she could get out of her brand and her career. “When I really started diving deep into my career, I said I wanted to have a cookbook, I want to be on the Food Network, and within a year, I accomplished those goals,” shared Curry. She shared that all this success did not come without a lot of hard work
Flutie believes that based on Curry’s success he and his company deserve a hell of a lot. They are suing for $10 million and 50 percent of Curry’s production company Yardie Girl Productions. A company she apparently did not have the money for until after Flutie’s branding company made her a household name. Flutie also wants a part of Curry’s home and cookware line. Curry has lawyered up and her attorney Michael Plonsker is vehemently denying Flutie’s allegations. “Ayesha Curry terminated her business relationship with disgruntled manager Robert Flutie in early 2019. We are confident that the legal process will find his accusations nonsensical and completely unfounded.”
