LeAnn Rimes may have initially grown her fame due to the fact that she was the youngest country music star of her time, but in recent years the singer-turned-actress has been the subject of media attention for being entangled in some less than ideal romantic situations. Now, the country star has opened up to People about the myriad of personal issues she has dealt with as well as the circumstances of how her relationship with now-husband Eddie Cibrian came to be.
Rimes and Cibrian initially met while both filming their made-for-television movie ‘Northern Lights.’ At the time, both were married to other people, yet still fell for each other and began a romance that the actress claims enduced massive amounts of stress and anxiety thanks to outside intrusion in their personal lives.
“There was something in the press every week that was just so fabricated,” Rimes commented on the overt and often intrusive media coverage of her and Cibrian’s alleged romance nearly a decade ago.
“Obviously there are mistakes that I take great responsibility for. But my whole life I had cared what everyone thought of me. So the public shaming was a deep thing that I took on,” the 37 year old performer continued to say. Due to the mounting interest in her personal life, Rimes claimed she became an introvert and began experiencing trouble sleeping and panic attacks. The “thoughts of negativity” plagued her mind as she attempted to navigate this new territory with Cibrian.
“I had so much underlying grief,” the artist commented about her mental state at the time, “Everything accumulated and I had to give in.”
Rimes shared that directly after her 30th birthday, she entered treatment for her mental health, “It was the first night I was ever alone, ever. There was a lot of co-dependency. And a lot of healing that needed to be done.”
Now, Rimes says she took plenty from that time of healing and was able to center herself on what matters most in life.
“I know who I am now,” she explained. “And I try to keep things in perspective. The need for other’s approval has changed big-time. Self-worth is key.”
Now, Rimes is focused on helping raise Cibrian’s two sons. On April 15, she posted a loving Instagram photo to her younger stepson, Jake, wishing him a happy birthday amidst quarantine.
Happy ‘Quarantine 13’ to this amazing kid! Happy Birthday Jakey! Today, I’m reminiscing about a time you weren’t taller than me… cause you are now! I’ll forever keep looking up to you. You bring my heart and my life so much joy. You bring joy to every life you touch. I am so honored and blessed to be your stepmom. I Love you, forever…. Le. A special shout out to your parents for creating you!”
