Keeping Up with the Kardashians is in its 18th season, and captures the lavish lifestyle of the KarJenner family. The series has really high ratings, and a lot of popularity, which means the cast is extremely successful. The viewers have seen these stars explore love, start families of their own, fall out of love and more.
Lately, the stars children have been coming on the show more and more, becoming their own stars. However, this leads to some bad press, in some instances, such as the most recent instance with North West’s hair.
Fans of Keeping Up With the Kardashians have seen North West since she was born. Her life’s been a literal open book, and that has not changed. After all, just months after Kardashian and West married, they announced a pregnancy. Everyone anxiously awaited her birth, and she was born in June 2013. It took them forever to release her name, and the media could not get enough of her.

That certainly has not changed. Recently Kardashian West posted a throwback photo on Instagram of her daughter, and fans began to talk about the child’s hair.

A Reddit discussion came to light as well. The Reddit thread is titled: “Did Kim relax North’s hair? Thoughts??”
One user commented, “Im mixed and my hair was as curly as North but it’s now only loosely wavy. It’s changed a lot from the time I was a toddler, and I didn’t even straighten it.”
Another user commented, asking to have the term “relaxed” explained: “Sorry could someone please explain what does it mean to relax someone’s hair?”
The answer to that was given by various commenters,
“Yea it’s a chemical that black people sometimes put on our hair every 6-7 weeks to straighten it.
It’s faded in popularity in recent years as you see more black women rocking their fros, twist outs and curly hair.
North’s hair isn’t straight enough though to indicate that it’s been relaxed. Hers is still loosely wavy most of the time which to me indicates it’s probably just been flat ironed a lot.”
And one more person put it into an easier perspective: “It’s like the opposite of someone with straight hair getting a perm. It’s a chemical treatment done to break the curl pattern. I don’t know the specifics sorry but it definitely damages the hair and you can only grow it out.”
Yet another commenter pointed out that Kim has addressed these concerns herself: “Kim has already said the reason Saint’s hair grows differently from North’s is because they have different hair types. Chicago’s curls are loose as well, and Psalm is completely bald. It’s normal for hair to grow differently between siblings.”
While others still worried she was altering the childrens’ hair for ‘beauty’: “Idk why she would, mixed curly hair looks so much more interesting than straight. But god knows what her beauty standards are for girls. It just seems a shame and a waste if she does do that. But maybe it’s because North’s hair is longer….I’ve seen mixed black and white children with basically naturally straight hair so Idk because we’ve seen North younger with natural curls.”
