Sorry not sorry Demi Lovato fans, but your fav is axing one of your favs.
Sure, the primary focus of Lovato’s latest interview was “love, addiction, and survival” – but the pages of her Harper’s Bazaar cover story contained much more than the Texas-transplant confirming an upcoming album and possible tour (and her non-friendship with Selena Gomez). In fact, she also opened up about the reason she left acting, but that’s not why we’re here either.
What really caught our attention was Lovato saying “there is one song [she’ll] probably never perform again.”
“[It] was actually one of my hits, because of something that happened during my overdose.” You know where this is headed! “If you have a song called ‘Broken Leg,’ and you went and broke your leg, you’re not going to want to sing that song ever again, probably.”
This naturally sparked the people of Twitter to begin conspiracy theorizing, because, hey? What else are you gonna do during a pandemic?
A few Lovatics think the song-in-question is that of either “Sober” or “Stone Cold,” but the majority vote heavily slid toward another title.
“Something [is] telling me Demi had a heart attack during her O.D. and that’s the hit song she’ll never sing again,” one wrote on Tuesday. It really makes me tear up to think of all the pain she went through during that time.”
Lovato’s “Heart Attack” was an integral part of her 2013, semi-self-titled album “Demi.”
“Because when she overdosed,” another added, “her heart stopped beating for a while.”
While the above was all-but-confirmed, one fan is already mourning the song’s unconfirmed death: “Heart Attack was really a bop tho.”
“How do y’all know though?” someone asked. Luckily, the first responders were on hand to help.
“Because when you od your heart races REALLY fast and there’s huge chances of a cardiac arrest…she probably had a minor one back on the cursed day…”
Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion!
And speaking of such things: A stan account pointed out that – as recently as early 2018 – Lovato made specific mention of her desire to hang up the “Heart Attack” hat for good.
“I think the one I’m really ready to retire but I’m not going to is ‘Heart Attack,'” she told Seventeen at the time. “I’m not going to because I know a lot of people love that song and it was a big song for my career, so I’m definitely keeping it. But I think I’m ready to retire it a little bit.”
At this point, whatever happens on tour will happen (when tours are made legal again) – for now, Lovato said of her life, “I’m feeling it out as things go…but I finally feel free.”
