Jesy Nelson has reportedly split from her boyfriend of 16 months, Chris Hughes.
The couple had supposedly been self-isolating in separate homes before the Little Mix star made the decision to dump her former beau – but the shocking part is that she decided to do it via phone.
It’s believed that Nelson and Hughes came to the understanding that their relationship hadn’t made any progress; in fact, they’ve been feeling distant from one another, leading the “Touch” singer to finally pull the plug.
‘She split up with him last week in a phone call, as she thought the relationship had run its course,’ a source told MailOnline. ‘There are no hard feelings. Jesy said he was surprisingly fine about it and thinks she will stay friends with him.’
What’s interesting is that Nelson and the former Love Island UK star had been living separately while in self-isolation, which had already made fans wonder whether there was trouble in paradise for the two.
Just last week, when asked whether her ex-boyfriend was isolating with her, the 28-year-old said: ‘Chris isn’t with me right now because he is in isolation with his flatmate, so I haven’t seen him for a while.’
Nelson made no mention of there being trouble in her relationship when she also told MailOnline that she was still in regular contact with the reality star even though they’d been kept apart by the coronavirus pandemic.
If anything, she gave off the impression that things were fine between them.
‘Now it’s just strictly FaceTime. We just FaceTime, WhatsApp, all that jazz. I’m used to [being away from Chris] as we’re apart when I’m on tour, I’m always traveling,’ Nelson said when asked how she’s keeping in touch with her man while abiding by the lockdown rules.
“The X Factor UK” winner went on to discuss her plans to eventually settle down and welcome kids into the world, telling the news publication that she definitely sees herself becoming a mother, but she doesn’t think she’s quite ready for a child just yet.
‘Yeah in the future, one day,’ she quipped. ‘I’m a kid myself right now so I’m not even thinking about having a kid right now. I want to get married, that’s for sure. When that will be, I don’t know.’
News of Nelson’s split from her longtime boyfriend comes just one week after Little Mix confirmed they had canceled their music video shoot for their second single in Brazil due to the global crisis, which has also seen the group’s sixth album face a delayed-release.
The album is still expected to hit stores later this year, but their record label isn’t putting out a date just yet – at least until the coronavirus outbreak has been contained.
Last month, Little Mix dropped their first single, “Break Up Song,” from their forthcoming record.
