Decoding song lyrics could be a full-time occupation for many. With a new release of her deluxe album ‘Rare’, Selena Gomez has people questioning who one song, in particular, is about. There have been three new songs added to the deluxe album—‘She’, ‘Boyfriend’, and ‘Souvenir’. In the song ‘She’, it seems as if Gomez is assessing her past in Hollywood in the third person, with haunting lyrics referencing the troubles she went through. In the song ‘Boyfriend’, Gomez herself explained that it is “a lighthearted song about falling down and getting back up time and time again in love, but also knowing that you don’t need anyone other than yourself to be happy."

But many fans are questioning the lyrics to the song ‘Souvenir’. The pop-anthem discusses a summer night in New York that Gomez potentially spent with someone. The only clue fans have been going off of is the the person in question might have "Egyptian blue" eyes. The lyrics from the song involve a date-night in NYC in August, but the year remains unknown. The lyrics reveal, “Sunset tower lobby, waiting there for me/In the elevator, fumble for your key/Kissed in every corner, Presidential Suite/Opened that Bordeaux from 1993.”

While fans have almost definitely ruled out the mystery date being famous ex-Justin Bieber, there have been a few other names that have cropped up as potential suitors. Niall Horan of One Direction fame is a potential for who the song is about, especially since the pair has been linked in the media before. However, Horan has said before during a SiriusXM interview that "We're friends. We hang out all the time. The one photo that was ever taken got posted. We are good friends.” Yet, it should be noted that Horan does have blue eyes and was born in 1993….hmm…

Fans have also suggested the song was about New York fashion executive Samuel Krost. While the pair reportedly were linked back in 2015, they split the following year. In August 2016, Krost posted a now-deleted IG caption that said, “Although we have ventured on separate paths, at least I know that love exists. I love you, Sel.” Meanwhile, despite the lyrics not being an obvious fit, some fans are speculating that Gomez’s ex-The Weeknd could be the subject of the song. The famed couple were once spotted leaving the Los Angeles' Sunset Tower Hotel, which could be the reference to the “Sunset Tower lobby” in the song. Any guesses on who the song could be about?
