A few months ago, the ‘Lizzie McGuire’ reboot was put on hold due to the adult storyline not aligning with Disney +.

According to Hilary Duff, 'I'd be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating.’

‘It's important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen/teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable. It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again,' Duff added.

But it looks like all hope isn’t officially lost.

Duff recently revealed they're still communicating with Disney + and trying to find a compromise to push the show forward.

The 32-year-old told People, ‘There’s still conversations going on in hopes that we can find a way to meet in the middle and both bend a little bit. I understand that they have to protect their brand and there’s pretty strict guidelines on what that looks like.’

Duff continued, 'I just have to make sure it’s the right move for me and that I feel like I’m honoring her and the character, and that it will be relatable to the people who grew up with her because those are the people I really want to speak to.’

The reboot was put on pause after the creator, Terri Minsky, originally stepped down due to creative differences. But a couple of days ago, the writers and Minksy had a zoom call which fans think is a good sign.

The ‘Lizzie McGuire’ reboot was set to follow a 30-year-old woman living in New York City. A leaked script revealed the show contained “sex with cheating," which might be one of the reasons why Disney + didn't go along with the original script.

Duff, Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, and Jake Thomas were all set to reprise their roles. Adam Lamberg was also set to return as Gordo.

Before the show was put on pause, the cast filmed two episodes.

‘I am so proud of the two episodes we did,’ Minsky told Variety. ‘Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen.'

She continued, 'It’s a wonderful thing to watch. I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That’s the part where I am completely in the dark. It’s important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion.'

And while nothing has been confirmed, fans are hoping for the best.

The original 'Lizzie McGuire' series first aired in 2001 and ended in 2004. The series was nominated for two Emmy Awards and for the Most Outstanding Children's Program.

Not to mention, the show’s pilot received a nomination at the Writers Guild of America Awards for Best Children's Script.

‘Lizzie McGuire’ launched Duff’s career. Since the show’s finale, the 32-year-old actress has starred in several movies, including; ‘Agent Cody Banks,’ ‘A Cinderella Story,’ ‘The Haunting of Sharon Tate,’ and the comedy series ‘Younger,' to name a few.
