For years, TLC viewers have had the opportunity to get to know the Duggars, beginning with the family patriarch Jim Bob and his wife Michelle. The two appeared with their 19 children on 19 Kids and Counting and several iterations based on the number of children the two had at the time. Now, the adult children are featured on Counting On.
Jessa Seewald is one of the Duggar children featured on the show with husband Ben. With the show not currently airing, Jessa and some of her siblings have been posting on Instagram and YouTube. Most recently, Jessa released a video dedicated to her father.
Jessa posted to Instagram, “As I’m raising my own kids now, I look back on my growing up years and I’m so grateful to God for the parents he blessed me with. This is the fruit of those reflections.” The first video is devoted to her father, and her second video will be dedicated to her mother.
Several family members have ‘liked’ the Instagram post, including Jana Duggar. Jana commented, “We do have the best parents ever!” Their sister Joy also commented, “Agreed, so thankful to have them as our parents!”
Right now, sister Jill Dillard has not commented or addressed the video. Jill has notably been distant from her parents.
Jessa opens up the video sitting on her couch. She says there are things she may not see eye-to-eye on with her parents, but she has a lot of fond memories of her youth. In fact, she has several typed pieces of paper full of memories. Jessa says that Jim Bob is not perfect and that she and her father are a lot alike.
Jessa talks about the family’s religious study that began when she was a child. Jim Bob would read the Bible to the family at night, and she describes him as the “king of cliffhangers.”
Most of Jessa’s praise seems to stem from her father’s religious practice. In the past, many critics of the Duggars have long criticized the family’s inability to describe characteristics and qualities of their loved ones that don’t stem from religious conviction.
Jessa discusses her appreciation for unconditional love, which she says is important because she does not always agree with her father.
Jessa goes on to say that her children see her “at [her] worst,” and that she learned humility from her father.
While the Duggar parents were seemingly very strict about some things, they were permissive in some ways. Jessa describes the children getting their learning permits when they were 14 years old, and she describes her father’s patience teaching her how to drive.
Jessa shared many positive memories about her father, including him carrying all the siblings to their beds after they had fallen asleep on a long car ride. The video left many viewers to wonder if this was Jessa’s way to take sides in the ongoing feud between Derrick Dillard and Jim Bob.
