One thing that we, as a country, can all look forward to regarding the current widespread COVID-19 coronavirus is that if we continue with self-isolation and social distancing there will definitely be a flattening of the curve. It's a model that was initially implemented by many European nations who had seen an increase in cases and mortality rates. But now it's being reported that in Italy, one of the hardest hit regions in the world, there's a decrease in fatalities taking place.

Optimistic News From Abroad

Business Insider reports;

After weeks of bleak headlines, a handful of European nations — Italy, Spain, and France — on Sunday reported a drop in coronavirus death tolls. Sunday also marks the third day of declines in Italy's fatalities, following 766 deaths on Friday and 681 on Saturday, according to statistics website Worldometer. The number of new cases also fell from 4,805 on Saturday to 4,316 on Sunday, bumping up the total caseload to 128,948.

Although things are beginning to change for the better in Italy they are still a long way from completely eradicating COVID-19.

It's Far From Over In The U.S.

This is where the United States comes into play, as the crisis continues to rise just months after news of the virus' spread became common knowledge with American citizens. Now the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Jerome Adams, is being very candid in one of his latest briefings on the pandemic. According to NPR during a recent television appearance Adams revealed that progress is being made, yet there are still many dark days ahead before we come out on the other side.

"An Incredibly Hard Week"

"I absolutely believe this is going to be an incredibly sad and an incredibly hard week for our country," Adams told ABC's Good Morning America on Tuesday. "But the American people have the power to change the trajectory of this epidemic if we come together like we have after past tragedies in this county." "We need you to continue doing your part. And most people actually are — over 90% of the country is actually doing the right thing right now," Adams said.

"A Light At The End Of This Tunnel"

Adams did also offer words of encouragement for American citizens, telling them that there was hope awating us all at the end of this global crisis.

"I want the American people to know, there is a light at the end of this tunnel and we feel confident that if we keep doing the right thing for the rest of this month that we can start to slowly reopen in some places," Adams said.
