Following the success of the Netflix Original hit series ‘Tiger King’ Investigation Discovery will dig into whether Carole Baskin murdered her missing husband in the limited series, ‘Investigating the Strange World of Joe Exotic.’
‘Millions of true crime fans around the world were left wanting more,’ Investigation Discovery president Henry Schleiff said in a press release. He hinted that ID will produce a sequel to this drama ‘featuring a missing husband, a hitman, and the illegal business of exotic animals.’
He promised it would ‘address the lingering questions that viewers demand be answered.’
‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness’ star Joseph R. Fritz was the attorney and friend of Don Lewis, the former husband of Carole Baskin, who went missing in 1997 and has since been declared dead. Now, the Florida-based lawyer who appeared in Netflix’s hit series is saying that even though he has represented many clients, he has never in his 40-year-long career seen a case mishandled quite as Lewis’.
Joseph R. Fritz says he believes that the sheriff’s department had ‘no choice’ but to recently reopen the case because of questions that started pouring in from the series’ viewers, who wanted answers.
‘They [the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office] wanted to have a chat with me and have not found time in 24 years to come visit with me,’ Fritz has reportedly said.
After running into several dead ends and making no progress whatsoever, the Hillsborough County Police eventually stopped pursuing the case.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff Department’s Chad Chronister assumed the case had predominantly ‘dried up.’ However, an influx of viewer fascination could ultimately help them find more evidence.
Some are suggesting Carole Baskin, Lewis’ wife, might be implicated. If that were the case, she would have to be removed from the Netflix show. Last week, Baskin herself commented on viewers’ shocked responses to Lewis’ case.
‘There are not words for how disappointing it is to see that the series not only does not do any of that, but has had the sole goal of being as salacious and sensational as possible to draw viewers,’ Baskin’s statement reads.
‘As part of that, it has a segment devoted to suggesting, with lies and innuendos from people who are not credible, that I had a role in the disappearance of my husband Don in 1997,’ Baskin suggests.
While Carole Baskin was not seen as a person of interest in the case and her husband Don Lewis was declared dead years after going missing, the allegations from ‘Tiger King’ have fingers pointed in Baskin’s direction. In the series, Lewis’ family, Joe Exotic, and a host of other eccentric cast members speculated on his disappearance.
