Perhaps the one good thing that has happened during the coronavirus pandemic is the release of the Netflix docuseries 'Tiger King', which has captivated the world as it followed the story of a wild and crazy 'zoo owner' that went on to duke it out with an 'animal rescue' advocate.

That zoo owner was Joseph Maldonaldo-Passage, or Joe Exotic, as he's better known. Maldonaldo-Passage made it his personal goal to try and expose Carole Baskin, the animal rescue advocate, for the sudden disappearance of her multi-millionaire husband, claiming that she fed him to the tigers in her sanctuary. Well, it seems that Investigation Discovery also has an interest in getting to the bottom of the mystery as they're producing a sequel to the wildly popular series.

Investigation Discovery Releases a Statement on 'Tiger King' Sequel

This week, Investigation Discovery announced that they'd be producing a sequel to 'Tiger King' that will focus less on the wild personalities of Joe Exotic and the other characters, and more on what happened to Baskin's husband, who disappeared without a trace. The cable network channel released a statement this week on their plans for the highly-anticipated sequel.

"Love her or hate her, Carole is now in the center ring of the big cat circus," the network began in a statement. "Is she a selfless crusader and protector of animals, who found unimaginable strength despite the mysterious disappearance of her husband? Or are we witnessing Carole Baskin’s master plan finally take effect?"

The Documentary Will Investigate Baskin's Claims of Innocence

"Despite her claims of innocence, did she orchestrate the disappearance of Don Lewis to seize control of his fortune, consolidate power and lay waste to her foes? No one seems to be talking – except for one man – and that man is the center of ID’s upcoming investigative series," they said.

ID released the name of the biopic which will be titled, 'Investigating the Strange World of Joe Exotic'. According to the network, the documentary will show 'the investigation you didn’t get to see, revealing the secrets only Joe knows and the exclusive footage that has never been shown'.

Baskin Calls 'Tiger King' Docuseries 'Sensational and Salacious'

Baskin's husband, Don Lewis, was worth an estimated $5 - 10 million and suddenly vanished on August 18, 1997. His disappearance in Florida is still considered an open case, despite more than two decades passing by.

Baskin has denied any involvement or wrongdoings related to her husband, even going so far as to call the 'Tiger King' and its insinuations 'salacious and sensational'. Still, many people, including law enforcement, want a more thorough investigation into what exactly happened to Lewis years ago.

The ID President Explains Reasoning For Creating the New Documentary

"Viewers are understandably riveted by Netflix’s Tiger King, but the millions of true crime fans around the world were left wanting more," Harry Schleiff, the president of the ID network said in his own personal statement.

"ID is the perfect place to find the inevitable sequel to this drama – featuring a missing husband, a hitman, and the illegal business of exotic animals. It's time to let the cat out of the bag and address the lingering questions that viewers demand be answered." And while there is no premiere date at this time, it's expected to be released this year.
