Little Mix have been working on their sixth studio album, having already dropped its debut single “Break Up Song” last month.

But working on their forthcoming record brought upon a lot of changes given that the girl group had abruptly cut ties with Simon Cowell’s label Syco just days before the release of their fifth album “LM5” in 2018.

According to reports at the time, the girls - who consist of Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock - couldn’t agree with Cowell on the project’s rollout.

And things continued to turn left when Simon allegedly didn’t like the idea of Little Mix placing “Woman Like Me” as their lead single from the record.

“LM5” was heavily focused on topics the subject of female empowerment, which band member Thirlwall previously said was one of the main issues that wounded up causing problems for the group and their working relationship with Syco.

The four-piece ended up signing a new deal with RCA Records, who will be distributing their sixth album later this year.

Leaving Simon's Record Label Was 'Stranged'

And in a recent interview with Metro, Pinnock revealed that leaving Cowell’s imprint was strange, particularly since it was the first record contract that had ever been offered to them straight after winning The X factor UK in 2011.

The 28-year-old expressed: “It was definitely strange because we’d been with Syco for so long and a bit of a shock to the system.”

While she was sad to part ways with her former boss, the “Power” singer says that the change to RCA Records has brought upon lots of fresh ideas for the girl group, a brand new team and new opportunities that will hopefully see them break into the US market by the time their sixth offering hits stores.

“It’s nice to have fresh people to work with and fresh ideas. But everyone needs change in their life I guess.”

“I feel like we’ve had control from the start,” Pinnock said while discussing the process of working on new music with their label.

“We’ve always been the type of girls to walk in and be like, right, this is what we want. We were like that from The X Factor. We’ve always taken the lead but I think it’s gotten better now that we’ve got older.”

Since winning The X Factor in 2011, Little Mix have sold over 50 million records worldwide, with some of the biggest hits including “Touch,” “Wings,” “Shout Out To My Ex,” and “Black Magic.”

It was recently revealed that the girls had to cancel a music video shoot for their next single in Brazil due to the coronavirus pandemic, which led Little Mix to postpone the release of their next album until further notice.

Edwards says that she predicts the project will be out before September.
