Many people who are familiar with the Duggar family have had questions about how a family so large can possibly practice safe social distancing. A recent Instagram post from Joy-Anna Duggar Forsyth has shown many of her social media followers that she is not practicing social distancing to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
The photo that Forsyth posted has since been removed, but it was a clear demonstration that she and husband Austin are not taking health and safety guidelines as seriously as some of her siblings seem to.
The Duggar parents, Michelle and Jim Bob, have made a statement on Facebook about the virus, but the post was mostly centered on religion rather than on the need for social distancing. Their post said, “The one thing we do know is that even in the darkest days and in the most challenging times, we can put our trust and hope in God.”
On March 30th, the family’s Facebook page did mention trying to flatten the curve, but they have not been specific about how the family is taking steps with so many small children and extended family members living on the family’s land.
Compared to some of the other Duggar offspring, Joy-Anna does not seem to be taking serious steps. Jill Dillard has posted on her personal blog and Instagram about social distancing and trying to find toilet paper. Jessa and Ben Seewald have also discussed staying away from the larger Duggar home.
And then, there are those like Jana, who went to assist with cleaning up after a tornado hit Arkansas. While this would be a kind gesture in many circumstances, a picture Jana posted on Instagram demonstrated a lack of social distancing. Commenters pointed out that Jana has an immuno-compromised sister at home she could potentially carry the virus back to.
So, what was in the deleted Instagram post? Reddit user u/solaie posted a screenshot on the DuggarSnark subreddit. The photo features Forsyth’s son, Gideon, playing with two of his paternal cousins at the river. The children are all sitting in close proximity to each other. Many people questioned not only the judgment of not social distancing but also the judgment of posting such a photo to social media in a time when most people are very conscious of the global pandemic.
What is also very concerning about Forsyth’s post is that she is currently pregnant and due to give birth this summer. She could be putting her new baby at risk by failing to distance herself from others, regardless of whether they are family.
If Forsyth and the other Duggar family members were currently filming ‘Counting On,’ it is clear that its production is likely postponed. At this time, there is no news about an air date for a new season of the TLC show.
