Val Kilmer, best known for playing Iceman in the movie "Top Gun" as well as his turn as Jim Morrison in "The Doors," writes in his new memoir "I'm Your Huckleberry" that it has been 20 years since he has dated anyone, and says, "the truth is, I'm lonely part of every day." Kilmer has previously been romantically linked to a bevy of Hollywood heavyweights including Angelina Jolie, Darryl Hannah, and Cher. He married his 'Willow' co-star Joanne Whalley in 1988, but the two divorced in 1996.

In his new memoir, set to be released on April 21, Kilmer also talks about his battle with throat cancer. He was diagnosed with the illness in 2015, and underwent a tracheotomy as well as chemotherapy and radiation. He said that Cher, who he dated in the early 1980s, helped him through what were very dark days. "Once Cher works her way inside your head and heart, she never leaves. For her true friends, her steadfast love and loyalty never die," he writes in excerpts of his memoir obtained by People magazine.

Kilmer, Cher, Shared Laughs After Cancer Diagnosis

Val Kilmer says he stayed in Cher's guest house while recovering from throat cancer.

According to Kilmer, he and Cher, who let him stay in her guest house, managed to find humor, even during the worst of his health problems. "One night, I suddenly awoke vomiting blood that covered the bed like a scene out of 'The Godfather,'" Kilmer pens. "I prayed immediately, then called 911. Then alerted my hostess. Cher stepped in and stepped up. And ... even in my grave condition, I saw her scanning the paramedic, who was Gregory Peck drop-dead handsome. Despite the fact that I was covered in blood, I caught her eye and bounced my brows like Groucho Marx. We laughed out loud before they finished with my vitals and shut me up with an oxygen mask."

Vilmer, who takes the name of his memoir from a line spoken by Doc Holliday, who he played in the 1993 movie "Tombstone," has most recently toured in a one-man show about Mark Twain, and is set to reprise his role as Iceman in 'Top Gun: Maverick,' a sequel to his 1986 movie also starring Tom Cruise. "I have been healed of cancer for over four years now, and there has never been any reoccurrence. I am so grateful," the Christian Scientist says.

Kilmer calls his split from Hannah, who he dated in 2001 after the two worked together in the movie "In God We Trust," an action-thriller starring Christian Slater later renamed 'Hard Cash,' "by far the most painful," and when the relationship between the couple ended (Hannah would go on to marry rock icon Neil Young), Vilmer struggled to bounce back. "Lord knows I’ve suffered heartache," Kilmer writes. "But Daryl was by far the most painful of all. (Neil Young, I always loved you, but I’m afraid I hate you now)."
