Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially separated from the royal family, the couple will have to embark on a journey toward total financial independence. Now, some sources claim that the couple is facing a "financial nightmare."

“Meghan is terrified that her dreams of being a Hollywood queen will be destroyed by this financial nightmare and she is insisting that Harry make a move and resolve the crisis,” one source told Express. The source also said that Markle was insisting that Harry get a job.

Although this source is suggesting that Harry and Meghan are strapped for cash, that's not exactly the case. The couple recently made the move from Canada to Los Angeles, and are reportedly looking to buy a home in the area.

They've also agreed to pay for the renovations that they had done to Frogmore Cottage, their residence in the U.K. The renovations were originally paid for using British tax dollars, but when they announced they would be leaving the royal family, they agreed to repay the fees.

On top of all of their other financial obligations, the couple will also have to pay for their own security in the U.S. Even so, their financial picture isn't as dire as it might seem, in part because the royal family isn't as wealthy as it might appear to be.

Harry also inherited $10 million from his mother, and can put that money towards the many things he's obligated to pay for. On top of that, Harry and Meghan both have plenty of opportunities in front of them.

Harry has a history of charity work, and is sure to be a sought after speaker for a wide array of events. Meghan, meanwhile, has already inked a deal with Disney to narrate their documentary "Elephant," and that likely won't be the last opportunity she has to work in Hollywood.

Because of their high level of notoriety, the couple will likely have plenty of offers. They'll just have to choose which ones they want to pursue, and which ones make sense for them financially.

All of this is slightly complicated by the coronavirus pandemic, which has harmed economies all over the world and kept many people, including Harry and Meghan, from pursuing some of these opportunities.

Although the couple has never discussed their finances, it's likely that they have less to worry about than some may have reported. “What’s most important right now is the health and well-being of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemic," the wrote on their Instagram.
