Val Kilmer was a big star back in the ’80s and early ’90s. Although to the surprise of many he has seemingly never taken a break from doing movies. As he has been in a movie virtually every year since the ’80s, he is certainly not as popular today as he was back in the prime of his career. At 60 years old he is not as well kept as other actors his age and this may have something to do with his lack of major roles. There is always one thing you can do though, to get back into the spotlight. That is, release a book about your life!
As with any actor that makes it big, there are usually a couple of roles along the way that really define a career. For Kilmer, there were a couple of roles that really allowed him to reach the top of the Hollywood elite at the time.
Back in 1986, he was part of one of the most famous movies of all time in Top Gun. In which he played Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. He then went on to play Jim Morrison in a biopic titled “The Doors” in 1991. In 1995 he became Bruce Wayne/Batman for Batman Forever. From there though things kind of came downhill.
As was mentioned before, it isn’t like Kilmer has actually ever been out of work. He has been in a movie almost every year since 1984! He only took a short hiatus from 2015 to 2017. As at the time he was dealing with a form of throat cancer. That has really hindered his voice.
Also, he is just not the desirable man that he once was. It is not just his age. It is just a fact that he has not aged well.
You may not be able to tell by looking at him these days, but back in the day, Kilmer was a bit of ladies man. Actually one of the main reasons that his memoir seems to be a hit with fans is that he talks about many of the love stories that he had in Hollywood.
Kilmer dated stars like Angelina Jolie, Cher, Cindy Crawford. The list really does go on and on. He was even linked to Paris Hilton at one point in time. Although, that relationship was never confirmed.
Another one of the reasons why we are probably going to be hearing more from Kilmer in the upcoming months has something to do with a movie he was in back in 1986. Top Gun is finally getting a sequel after 34 years of its original release.
Both Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer are set to reprise their roles. The release date for the movie was set for June. The most recent reports indicate that the release date has been pushed back to December.
